You'll have more smiles than frowns with any of them.

All great reasons. It is my opinion that all the E, F and G motors are flawed. But for the performance and price point, I can't find a substitute at the moment.

When in doubt, don't do it but I love mine. If I had never discovered RL, all this would be unknown to me so this is the way I'm treating it. I've had many cars, I'm not talking just about Pcars and it seems they all had some sort of problem, all mostly very minor. To date my GT3 has been flawless. Good luck in your decision. Keep us posted if you get the GT3 though.

Apparently the GT3 991.2 is coming with an engine derived from the RSR, "developed in the interests of longevity". Tacitly admitting a problem???

I am waiting to hear price of the .2, but honestly, with the next 911 due next year (992), it will be a shortlived marvel. So I am at a loss also as to what next.

I was at my race shop this weekend. On the lift was a 997 RS sans engine. His engine blew on the way to a cars and coffee. Car had track history.

These are machines. They break.

So far a lot of 991RSs have been tracked...some a lot. Zero issues reported dealing with valve train wear.

Waxer, you're so right. It seems that it's been quiet on the engine (valve train) problem lately. Hopefully all the lemons have been weeded out.

You are correct. Machines and they break like any other..........just prematurely for the .1 GT3 motor iteration IMO.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to test the G like I did the E within warranty period as it is more a garage queen lately.

Hope RS owner is getting Porsche goodwill!

Would that means it does have finger followers or not? Anybody knows?

I guess nobody knows except PAG. 8 days to go...

My guess is: GT3RS is homologation for RSR so:

991.1 GT3 Engine -> 991.1 GT3RS -> RSR (and GT3R) -> 991.2 GT3

Not the same engine but related.

GT3R racing since spring '16. Supposedly had the RS engine with additional oiling for racing.

My bet its the same engine with additional oiling i.e. the Gen 2 G engine. More squirters.

They made revisions from the F to the G. Included in the changes were the major change in the way of heads with additional oil squirters. Then they added some changes mid '16 by way of DLC on the cams. Already had DLC on the followers. If they thought there was still a problem they I believe would have made the revisions or corrections right then as opposed to pumping out more engines that were warranty claims waiting to happen.

As to the .2 GT3....What would they use if there are no finger followers?

I think what they are "admitting" is that they are always "improving" their products.

Personally, I think they bit off a little more then they could chew with a 9000 red line with a 3.8. The reduced red line to 8800 and additional oiling and increased displacement (less heat) resolved the longevity issue. At least from what we can see now. No G's have failed in the way of valve train and many of them have been flogged mercilessly.

Default .1 GT3

Given that Porsche is continuing to kick the can down the road, does anyone in the know believe that the .1 GT3 engine can be made reliable for regular trackwork with it's existing 9k rpm redline-meaning nominal 100/hrs before top end tear down/rebuild? Or was the 9k on 3.8l overreaching as someone posted earlier in this thread?

I tried to have rev limiter on my GT3 "G" reduced to 8,800. Was told it cannot be done.

Regarding to the usage statistics, the issue isn't one that happens in the last 200 rpm of the revving range. It seemed to happen also on cars not driven on the track and seldom in sport auto mode. There is no correlation between the mileage the issue appeares and the specific usage.

Also, porsche increased the oil pressur in the midrange rpm, not in the top level.
