The installation is as important as the tile, but this tile is mighty strong/durable with a PEI 5 rating. We put a fracture membrane underneath, partly to help with CA earthquakes. I've already dropped big heavy things on it with no signs of damage. When the lift installers were worried about scratching the floor, I took a screwdriver and hit a spare tile as hard as I could -- it literally created sparks, without a single scratch... I honestly think it's stronger than a concrete floor.

edit: we did the doors that way to preserve headroom for the lift. (They were an engineering nightmare.) I thought it was a compromise until I saw them in action, and now love them and think they add old-world charm to the garage.
I finally decided to go with tile too. 100% worth the cost. I went with a stone look, but now after thinking about it the slip-resistant distressed wood look would have been great. The most important thing to me was using epoxy grut so I can simply clean it with any chemical I like, and it doesn't stain. A year out and it's perfect. And contrary to popular belief it isn't more difficult to work with. You just need to clean residue off the tile quicker. I also suggest keeping an eye on the installer if English is a second language to them. Installers want to do things the exact same way and not deviate. This was the case with the adhesive I used which was Keralastic.

Epic build! You folks in FL build tanks for houses with the block walls. Our wood framing here in TX is a joke compared to those walls!

I have an estimate of ~$4k to epoxy my floors. For those of you who estimated the tile and the epoxy, how much did your costs increase by going with tile? It sure looks nice but I imagine my costs will go up a fair amount.

Shopthe install labor. Some places were 8 times the price. I can't recall how much more it was, but I'm guessing 4 times the price of professionally installed epoxy. But it's one and done and will increase the value of the house (if it's a nice garage) I prepped my last garage floor very well, and even with that hot tires started to remove paint where the car was parked.

Get a quote. Not too tough.

After going through every page, I hem and hawed over the flooring. I ended up going with Swisstrax and really enjoy it.

Before with old epoxy

After with Swisstrax

What is the coefficient of friction (COE) rating of the porcelain tiles you guys are using? I see tiles with .50 COE at Home Depot, but am having trouble finding something with a higher rating.
