"Accordingly, it's no surprise that the RS uses a heavily amended engine. The 3.8-liter flat-six has been stroked to 4.0 liters and has a new intake system. Its crank is cast using metallurgy techniques honed with the 919 Le Mans race car. Peak figures are eye-popping for a naturally aspirated 911: 493 hp at 8250 rpm and 388 lb-ft at 6250 rpm.

The development team is mighty pleased with the Turbo-body side intakes: They allowed a much more accurate and concentrated airflow for the revised intake system"

That said nobody needs an RS over a GT3. But the want, the WANT!!
388 lb/ft of torque ? Don't think so......

lb/ft? No, ... lb-ft!

But you're right about the typo. Should be 338.

If you wait till then it will probably be too late for a new one. I hate to think the premium used ones will bring.

Monkey's pulling no punches. Must have an inside line on what's coming....

"It's the best dual-clutch I've ever used, which makes it about one-tenth as good as a decent manual transmission."

As tempting as the RS is, the price puts me out of the market for one. I've tired to limit my track car(s) to about $100K, but wanted a GT3 for a while, so I took a plunge and went 40% over that budget with the GT3. Zero regrets so far. I know that depreciation considerations change the picture and may help justify the RS; but still, I have a hard time fathoming rolling around the track in a machine costing almost $200K, being subjected to all that abuse, rocks and Corvette parts flying around, prior gens of GT3 dumping coolant, etc. And the operating cost of the RS will certainly be higher too, with those bigger wheels/tires and the higher cost of track insurance.

But to console me, we have a GT4 on order, which should complement the GT3 very nicely. And for road use, I still really dig my comparatively inexpensive C63, with it's merely 'sporty' handling and muscular low- to mid-range torque which can be enjoyed on most roads without needing crazy speed.

Life can still be bearable without the RS ... as long I don't drive one and then start wondering!

Lol.

You have a great point. I know it's sacraledge but mine will never see the track. I watched a video of a 458 explode into a million pieces today in a club race.

It won't be a DD for me. I have other cars for that duty.

I'm doing most because it's cool.

These are certainly cars which can be appreciated in many contexts, and I wouldn't fault anyone for permanently putting one in their living room to be enjoyed as an objet d'art.

That said, it would sort of be like keeping a Stradivarius in a glass case, or fiddling around with it without really learning to play it. Experiencing it in the hands of a virtuoso would bring it to life and open up a new dimension of appreciation and enjoyment. Similarly, just riding shotgun in the RS with someone who really knows how to drive would likely be a mind-blowing experience for people who have little or no experience tracking cars. I suggest that every RS or GT3 owner have that experience at least once. You'll never look at the car the same way again.

I've done that actually. My track skills are good. Many track schools. I have ridden with Patrick Long in a Porsche and Anthony Lazzaro in a Ferrari. I just don't like putting my personal cars on the track.
