Consolidated 991RS thread

I do find it very interesting that they capped the redline at 8800 rpm. I bet it was too late to dial back the GT3 after the 2014 fiasco because they marketed the car with the 9000 so hard. There is no doubt they might be close, if not there already, with what they can do with this NA platform. Sure, they gave it some more torque which they still have more to give if/when they want to. I ask myself; a) Was my expectation just too high?? b) Was the 991 GT3 just such a big leap( which I believe it was) over the C2S/previous GT3s that there was no way they could of expanded that to the RS?? c) Did they just make the Gt3 too good leaving very little room for improvement?? d) Did they dial back the RS from what they might of learned with the GT3 - will never know??

Also, again, the engine speed from the 3.8L -> 4.0L engine might be down, but piston speed is up. Same thing happened with the 997.2 GT3 RS vs. 997.2 GT3 RS 4.0.
Everyone's getting hung up on 200 rpm of reported engine speed, which doesn't even accurately convey how fast the internals are moving.

Despite what folks are saying, I wouldn't be surprised if the 991.2 merges the GT2 and GT3 lines into a Turbo RS or something.

I agree with that the 1.3 was so good out of the gate so it didn't leave a lot of room for improvement on paper for RS. And we have all been very good at building the hype. "Part that I really enjoy with RL".
If memory serves me right this is still a bigger step than for example 997.1gt3 vs 997.1rs?
Porsche makes so many great DD cars at the moment so personally I would have hoped for more of a "street legal 991cup".

and indeed the revised gt3 .2 may have an 8600 limit, inline with the factory scaling it all back for less expense for warranty work.
in retrospect, 9000 was a bit too high. too close to the edge of tolerances.

I got my confirmation from 918 VIP regarding a slot being reserved for me. The commission number won't get allocated for a few weeks and that is what is needed for the dealer to place an order against.
Just FYI to provide insight into timing of allocations in the USA.

I'm late to the party, but OMG, the car is great. The same config as my GT3 is $45K more. Is it worth $45K more? To me - no, even though it's an inconsequential amount. But that's because I measure the car in terms of driving enjoyment with little regard for anything else. This makes even GT3 vs. GT4 a tough to justify step (but that engine and RWS are works of art). If I was into owning the most badass car, it would have been totally worth it.
I'm sure those who get the RS will enjoy ownership experience and low depreciation, so total cost of ownership may even be lower than for GT3. In general, I think Porsche priced everything correctly. You get much more tangible stuff in GT4=>GT3 upgrade, making it worth the money for many, but in GT3=>GT3RS step-up you get much more intangible benefits. Also, GT3 segment has an upper boundary with an RS above it, while GT3RS pretty much does not, including many "money no object" buyers, so demand is going to make it seem like a bargain at the current price.

Any production numbers yet?

I did 17's in the retro manual 4.0..
So the RS will be known as the reliable one while the GT3's go boom LOL.
