Consolidated 991RS thread

A cup car would definitely be a better track car than *any* road car (918, P1, GT3, etc, etc). Safer and far faster.
Drawbacks:
- you do need to trailer
- since the suspension is tunable, it needs to be setup
- much more difficult to sell than a road car
Race cars are like getting married: very expensive to get out of one!

Yes I am, don't. Youre welcome.
My 1977 PO****box 911 race Humpty is more expensive than the RS.. CUP cars, the older the more it costs...
No, but plenty if you are not in a hurry I think.
Even the 4.0 depreciated a little and several were for sale before it became unicorn. Same with last 997RS, plenty for sale $10-20K under list after a year or 2.

All this talk about this car and other RS cars being great track cars.
Keep in perspective that this new pinnacle RS is still so much slower than a 15 year old 996 cup car around a track that in a 45 minute race the cup car would be out of sight. And for about one third the cost and a safer experience.
I encourage anyone that can afford a new RS to buy a cup car.
PS hope to get my allocation soon for new RS:-)

The 991RS will be there in lap times with early 3.6L 997 Cups.
I do not think the street RS will be considered slower....At Sebring anyhow..
However the 996 Cup is a good buy for anybody looking for a dedicated track car.

Given the lap times i have seen at Sebring with 996 Cup, the well set up 997.2RS were in the same league...

I like money to throw at buying and trying other cars. I hate dumping it into the same car over and over. That is the only reason I have been holding off at buying a cup. I enjoy experiencing other cars, but I seem to keep coming back to Porsche. I love the RS (any year).

the new the cup car you buy, the cheaper the overall ownership cost.
all cup eventually cost the same. you pay now or you pay later. you pay, pay and pay more.
but it is some of the best fun you will ever have clothes on or off.
i say just buy one, flog it for 2-3 years. pretend you bought citibank stocks in a few years back and write it off. most fun way to burn money.
