From that recent quote regarding the impact to the launch schedule of the RS by the GT3 engine problems it "seems" logical to infer that the RS powerplant is based upon/related to/the same as, that of its forebear... so I would guess its a
slightly breathed upon (NA) GT3 motor and not some FI variant ...

I agree. But all the rumors of late seem to dismiss a displacement increase which surprises me. How are they going to get significantly more power from this 3.8L GT3 motor? Increase revs beyond 9,000 rpm? A little better breathing? Even higher compression ratio? Seems like any HP increase from 3.8L is going to be modest at best (with no more torque). I thought 4.0L or more made more sense.
What puzzles me most about the pictures of the "test mule" is the total lack of any decklid air scoop that has been present on every GT3 and especially the RS right back to the 6.2... is it just wearing TT "camouflage" ...
I dont (yet) buy that its using the TT side vents, I still want to see a picture of the RSR engine bay to see how this is done on that car before I will believe it.
Maybe Porsche will surprise us with a 4.0, 4.1, or 4.2 ... but I think they are increasingly economizing but eliminating costly (limited run) model variations
such as this.
My guess is that it will be (the same) 3.8 with 475-500bhp ...

I have paid my deposit just to wait in line for my 991 GT3RS, and will trade in or sell my great 997.2 GT3RS when the time comes, later this year. I would prefer manual, but PDK I can live with. My Turbo S has it with 530 HP, wicked acceleration. Tires at 345 rear ? sounds wide and expensive. My RS tires at 325 rear are chorded after 3 track events, with 2 degree -ve camber all round. Big tire bucks. My friend's Corvette ZR1 has enormous 335 tires rear, I can hardly imagine 345's. Ride the beast, I look forward to it. Also, anyone know more details on the supposed con-rod bolt failure ? I think there is more to this story we need to know about, possible con-rod breakage perhaps ?

The above assumes three things:
- That they get a handle on reliability (beyond the rod bolts).
- That they want to (ie, they are not leaving power in reserve for future upgrade potential next round).
- That it's PDK only- they don't need to worry about missed shifts, so they can get more aggressive on the piston speed, also the PDK lets them nearly forget about lower end torque.
My preference would be for 4.0L to fill in the torque hole and a 6 speed manual option that makes use of that part of the power band, but...

I know the engine will be bigger..
I'm hoping for a Turbo at this point if its going to be PDK. Good for bullying cheaper cars at the track.. Oh, wait there's that fugly 625HP Z06...
The 4.0 will only have a small 25Hp power increase, no big deal but manual would save the day.
No more 3.8! 10,000RPM whahahahahaha...What could possible go wrong??!!

If I was going to fantasize,I'd say the side scoops are air pick up points along the regular one in the back and all that air is being naturally routed into the engine thru individual throttle bodies on each cylinder like BMW did on my E46 M3.

I agree and flip/flop on the increased displacement issue myself, if we go by past experience, they wont, they'll breathe on the existing engine and wring out another 15bhp or so ...

In an interview given to German magazine Auto Motor und Sport, Müller said Porsche "will continue with the downsizing strategy"

le GT3 RS will come with the same engine as the regular GT3 but with power between 510 and 515 HP and a more agressive PDK than ever and a lot of caborn parts.
