That car is quick. And the driver is not afraid to use ALL of the track on some of the corners.

Noticed that it's mostly cosmetic.

Well apart from any other reason, the production line has to build 785 new/additional engines ... they only have a finite capacity, that now has to be directed towards the GT3 "engine replacement recall" so that is bound to push out the production introduction for the RS, you could even argue it could also impact the 2015 GT3 production also, until such time as the engine production has backfilled the 2014's and has capacity to build net new engines for production demand.

Unfortunately, it is looking like the RS will not have a 4 liter engine as some have stated. In fact, this GT3 engine issue may cause Porsche engineers to "pull back" a little on pushing the envelope with the RS due to the issues mentioned.

How do you know it's no 4.0?

2 Launch of GT3 RS likely to be delayed until GT3 engine problems are fully resolved, summer launch no longer likely.
3. Production of next generation Cayenne to be moved entirely to Bratislava

4. Production of next generation Panamera to be moved entirely to Leipzig

Apparently the RS will be using the same engine as the GT3.

I don't. I remember seeing a few of your posts, and God knows, I hope you are right with your info on the RS. But I have to agree with Nick's post.

As the days & months pass, and as I see just about every press release coming out of Europe having to mention 'E-this & E-that' 'Consumption, CO2 regs, Euro 6, etc..." I'm getting a sinking feeling that we are staring at a repeat of 1971 right now. I'm terrified that 'large(er)' displacement NA engines are going to go extinct very soon.

Yeah?

Why would it cause them to pull back? They had a defective part from a supplier. That could happen in any circumstance with any car.

Mueller states: ""Aber wir wollen erst sicher sein, dass es mit dem anderen Motor kein Problem mehr gibt."

the highlight translated into English is other Motor.....

suggesting that there will be two GT3 engines....of such sufficient difference to warrant this distinction being made by the boss..

^^^ If the GT3 recall was due to some reportedly improperly torqued fasteners, bad run of screws/bolts, whatever, why would Porsche pull back on the RS? The issues with the GT3 appear to be isolated flaw(s) not poor engine development.

Sorry, Grrenlantern, I just read your post. You beat me to it...

That's a rational fear you have.

I was reading the latest issue of New Scientist and this interview was a bit unsettling to me. I won't delve into opinions on the scientific matters but I will say that it's just a change we're going to have to accept.

194 countries agreeing to abolish "stupid cars that use fossil fuels" is certainly going to put an end to an era of cars as we know them and perhaps even our culture of automotive enthusiasm.

First leg of CAFE standard increase doesn't hit until 2016 model year and there are ways to comply and still deliver some pretty powerful cars that don't necessarily require the more onerous aspects of E-tech.

For example, I just test drove an M235i, which is a complete hooligan of a car in SPORT mode but when switched to ECO PRO mode returns 32mpg on the highway.

Of course RS will be delayed, another motor issue cause them pull back? No! absolutely it's a marketing issue.
4 months production delayed to GT3 in 2013 and 5~6 months? recall, stop sell and replacement in 2014, it made Porsche wasted almost one year on their road map.
It pushed one year number GT buyers stand on a same timeline,
if your dealer shows you four quotations next Monday:

1) 2014 GT3 w/engine replacement $150K delivery: June
2) 2014 GT3 w/o any fix/replacement $150K delivery: July
3) 2015 GT3 $150K delivery: August
4) 2015 GT3RS $200K (500hp, wider, lighter, bigger wing,..) delivery: September

Will you take which one?
