Wrapped to hide CF roof? Carbon fiber roof and front lid, awesome!

I think Porsche will go with hybrid technology running batteries on the GT3 and GT3RS before they go down the Turbo route. This will still maintain the NA feel and the Torque fill Hyrbid technology can provide will make the GT3s much faster out of corners. Its all about controlling weight if they go down that route.

GT2 is basically going to have the Turbo S engine but with 2wd only and the body of the GT3RS if Porsche makes it.

The dealer here didn't even mention anything about a 991 Mk2 GT2 because there is basically no news or even rumors on it.

It seems like Porsche will make a special line of GT2 RS at the last year of 991 Mk2 production and limited numbers. I would still go for the NA GT3RS.

In fact, we do have news on the GT2 directly from Porsche and that is that the car may not happen at all. If there is more recent news, please post it.

"In an interview with Car and Driver, Porsche 911 product manager August Achleitner said this epic performance car’s future is in doubt.

He said the decision of whether to proceed with a new GT2 based on the current 991 chassis hasn’t been made and that “to write today that there would be a GT2 in the future would not be correct.”

Achleitner chalked this up to political issues within Porsche, but also to at least one technical problem.

Traditionally, the GT2 is a rear-wheel drive version of the 911 Turbo, but making the rear wheels do all of the work could make a new GT2 worse than the current Turbo S, because it wouldn’t have as much traction.

Traction has always been an issue for the GT2, which is pitched as both a more elemental alternative to the high-tech Turbo and a more extreme version of the naturally-aspirated GT3. Less-precise handling is part of its character.

Roof is a magnesium alloy constructed by Magna for Porsche. Front lid is CF, as are some other front end parts.

I was somewhat joking about the GT3 missing button problem, as well as noticing the "7" buttons on the console. Most with the GT3 have more blanks than that.

That would be my guess also - A GT3RS 500 HP N/A Engine and larger Wing for the purists among us and a GT2RS with Turbos making 650 HP. On the GT3RS, The Big Wing will provide most of the performance improvement, while the Big
Torque of the Turbo will provide most of its Performance improvement.

The 1-2 seconds improvement per lap on U.S. Tracks anticipated is likely to come with Base Pricing premiums of $50K - $75K over the Base GT3 and TTS.
Makes the Crawford Wing at $2,960 the biggest performance bargain on the planet.

The tricky thing about what August Achleitner said, and what Car & Driver reported on, is that it's somewhat answering the wrong question.

Consider this question/answer (a summary of what C&D asked):

Q: Will there be a 991 variant that's identical to the 997.x GT2 / GT2 RS (that happens to be a lightened RWD 991 Turbo S+ car)?
A: Probably not, because it would be inferior in performance to the 991 Turbo / Turbo S due to traction issues.

Achleitner also said "to write today that there would be a GT2" wouldn't be correct... That doesn't mean never, just means today. Basically, he gave a politician's answer: He said absolutely nothing, and that doesn't surprise me, Porsche is generally fairly tight lipped about unlaunched products.

Instead, consider this question/answer, which was not actually asked by C&D of Achleitner:

Q: Will there be a 991 variant that's built in the spirit of the 997.x GT2 / GT2 RS (that happens to be a ~x00 lb lighter 991 Turbo S+)?
A: This is technically possible, and I cannot confirm nor deny that we're thinking about this. But, hypothetically, I could see how we could strip X-hundred pounds off the weight of a more luxurious, more sound-deadened, more supple 991 Turbo S, up the power a little bit, leave it with our amazing (albeit slightly heavy) AWD system, and create a track monster that will destroy the previous 997.2 GT2 RS 'Ring record (which already destroyed previous 911's). It'll weigh a bit more than the 997.2 GT2 RS, but it'll be a absolute weapon.

Perhaps it'll simply be called a 991 Turbo RS instead of a 991 GT2 since it's not RWD. That would make sense to me.

And this speculation on my part is why I've got a deposit down already, for a while now, in case it materializes.

Is that the 'Lava Orange' color in the flesh, or just a primer? Can't wait to see the other colors! Maybe this is just another "leak" of information.
