Consolidated 991RS thread

I was being optimistic and referring to the "original" rumored price that floated around for the last year (~$185k). Nissan charges ~$70k more for 10 sec less on the 'ring so it's not mind boggling for Porsche to charge a premium. I'm certainly no pro on the track, but I'd assume comparing 'ring times is a challenging feat given ambient temps, track temps, etc., and of course the length of the 'ring.
In the end, I'm a fan of any engineering feat that makes a car faster. In the case of the RS, I'm appreciative of the drop in time as a result of engineering instead of just adding a bunch of power (a la +200hp in the Z06).

[QUOTE=reidry;11653317]Est8esq has found stock MPSC2 to be faster than 19" Hoosiers.]
If you have learned to drive the car on MPSC2's you will not be immediately fasted on Hoosier. There is a significant difference in driving style between the tires. IMO

Good to know, thanks. That would be a nice increase.

Well today I gave up my RS allocation in favor of a November build standard 3. For the infrequent tracker, I think this was a better decision. My 996 3 will be brought to the dealer the first week of October, so I will be w/o a 3 until January. I am feeling melancholy about getting rid of my '04 baby.

Hmmmm. Wondering how many times we have to have the RS vs Cup running costs discussion before it sinks in.
Net, net, ex the trans there is no difference when run like for like. Same motor (ex the vario cam, which is just an additional thing that can fail on RS), same suspension ex stiffer spring/shock combo. Run your RS on the track like a Cup - high throttle% with slicks - and watch your motor and suspension time out just like a Cup. The only a reason a Cup motor is more expensive to rebuild is because most want to keep the spec classification and hence are hostage to PMNA rebuild premium.
Those that have tried know, those that haven't don't.

If 4.0, if not, less.

Has anyone been running a 6 or 7 Cup on softer springs, less aggressive alignment, and Nittos or Hoosiers?
May be worth exchanging the street driveability of my 6gt3 for the increased safety and performance of a track-only but softened Cup + add a Boxster S/GTS for top-less back-road fun.

If you go too soft, however, it turns into the tippy cup ride. Needs to be in just the right sweet spot.

did you get a discount on standard 3? Seems a lot of supply available as of late.

This could be fun.....my guess is base is closer to $170K, my reasons: engine is supposed to be only 25hp more than standard GT3 (not that big a deal), supposed to be 3.8 liters also so engine mods won't cost a bunch for Porsche, it sounds like more downforce, gearing and trimming weight are most of the mods (although if some carbon fiber body panels are used that might be a bit costly). At $170k base it will still be a $40k premium over standard GT3. Of course I'm so sure of all this I'm not willing to bet a dime on all these predictions ha ha

I do run softer springs than stock. Same setup as Patrick Long ran in WC a few years ago. They seem to work better. The car is marginally quicker, and much more forgiving. The tires also last longer.

Msrp. Just trying to decide on exterior color now. Either white or agate grey metallic which is very close to seal grey like my current ride and the satin finish wheels will look great with it. So many white ones out there.
