Not to get all conspiracy theory, but I can't think of any reason Porsche would cover the GT3 and not the GT3RS; they're awfully similar (in PDK form) and see similar usage. Could it have something to do with the valvetrain issues with the PDK? Though if the GT3 with PDK is covered that would dispense with that hypothesis...

Or, as I stated before, it may simply be because the 3RSs aren't close to the end of their warranty yet.
yes, pdks are covered

I'm currently purchasing a 991.2 GT3 manual, and just found this thread. My car has remaining factory warranty for about another 8 months. I'm curious, based on everyone's experience with potential failures, aside from losing an engine or transmission, I'm not aware of any "known" systemic problems that would exceed the amount of money spent on the extended coverages if something were to happen. I know this is the typical debate with any extended warranty, but what are thoughts on the pricing of these coverages vs setting aside the same amount of money for a potential future failure given what is known about this platform so far?

As a point of reference, my GT3 had a PCM failure requiring replacement under previous ownership. It would have been $4000 if not under warranty. Nothing is cheap on these cars and I think an extended factory warranty certainly gives some piece of mind. It also helps on resale.

I would do some research in the 997 forum where warrantees are covered a lot. Most everyone there buys Fidelity Platinum, and there are a couple of guys that specialize in selling them for 45% off retail.

This is what I know: My service advisor said Fidelity is slightly easier to deal with than Porsche when it comes to claims. But the impression I got was they are similar. If you study the most common PDK failure, it's a sensor, which may or may not be covered under the Fidelity gold or powertrain warranty....which is why people buy the Fidelity Platinum warranty. I rarely hear other warranty names being mentioned that get bought. Fidelity is a stand-up company. I'm sure the Porsche Platinum warranty is excellent but compare prices. I wonder how the Porsche Powertrain warranty would be in a PDK failure that is the TCU or sensor rod (As I recall that's what it's called) which is electronic and not mechanical?

That's the rub with warrantees that are "inclusionary"...which means it covers listed parts. You want an exclusionary warranty so you know what's NOT covered.

Just purchased my warranty from a Porsche dealer in the Chicagoland area

2015 gt3 24k miles

i purchased the 5 year 50k mile warranty via safe guard $6500 $100deductible waived if I claim at purchase dealer.

fidelity was a lot more expensive for me and not through Porsche dealership.

Can you please let me know the price and if it was the $100 or $250 deductible? Also, if you received prices for other terms and mileage that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The final price was $4,750 with a $250 deductible. The other rates she provided were very high, so didn't bother negotiating on all of them as I wanted the 96mo/60K miles.

Is the Safeguard warranty exclusionary or inclusionary? That's critical.

Try to enter the VIN and mileage in the system. If options populate, then yes, but if it say "Call Dealer for Pricing", then there are no options available for the vehicle.
