Gt3 or Carrera T as a daily driver
#31
I’ve driven a 911T, have a .2 GT3, and had a GT4. I’d much rather have a GT4 as a daily than a 911T. Far more engaging to drive in every way. The dual trunks are actually far more useful for daily use than any 911 as well. Less money than a 911T and probably better resale over time. Downside is 2 seats, less ground clearance and a little more firm than the T ( but less so than a GT3).

Opposite for me. I had access to a GT4 for 2 years (prob did over 7k miles) and found it quite underwhelming. Gearing stunk and the Gen 1 motor sucked. I find the T especially with sport cats, tune, manual, and Cup2's to be far more enjoyable (and useful) than a GT4.
Having said that any of the 991.2 Carreras are great cars - Porsche really did do a great job with the 9A2 twin turbo.

I was looking for a previous thread on this topic, since there have been many where GT3 owners talk openly about “doing fine, if not actually enjoyed moving ‘down’ to a T”! But I can’t find it. That said, my sentiment is that I love my T... but I haven’t driven a GT3.

I didn’t hear any difference in the car at all. Anyone? Only difference is one more year of depreciation.

Only difference on the outside was that some of the early '18's (mostly Euro cars, I believe) were delivered with the headlight washers. The later '18's and all '19 cars didn't have those. Internally, I believe the '19's had water pump issue from the '17-'18 Carrera models resolved. But that is just anecdotal from perusing here.
A lot of "because racecar" bias here, of course. Just as I am biased to the T. It sounds to me like exactly what you want OP and you will love it if you can find/grab one. Don't listen to anyone who hasn't actually owned one. There are a lot of different T specs out there, and not all of them would float everyone's boat. Particularly if they don't want it to. In the real world, the T hangs with GT3s just fine and those guys are quite surprised by the package. Especially when they can't shake me loose or can't overtake on something tight and short unless they have kept their revs up.
Good Luck!

OP I would go and drive a few different 991.2 specs in base, T, S and GTS - you'll work out what you like from there. IMV the absolute pick for a daily is the GTS with SPASM and RAS - personally if you want a truly flexible daily plus 4 seats and access to the back thats the way to go plus it has plenty of go and then some. The LWB (fixed back) are hopeless in a daily as meaningful access to the rear is effectively killed. Definitely test drive before you buy . The reason I say this I have two friends both of whom came from 997 GT3s to Ts, one lasted six months and the other about a year - one went to a GTS the other to a .2 GT3.
Test drive, test drive thats the only way you'll find the right answer for you

GT4 is underwhelming.
Especially as a daily driver.

For a DD why not simply pick up a 992 C4S and be done with it? Everything you like and nothing you don’t. Trade up for the 992 GT3 when it launches...

I'm not sure comparing a modded turbocharged engine in your 911T to the stock NA motor in a GT4 a fair comparison. The stock GT4 is lighter, makes 15 more bhp, and sounds a hell of a lot better than the T (in my opinion). Yes, the gearing is tall on the GT4, but it also lets you wind the thing out in 2nd gear all the time without hitting stupid speeds. My GT3 revs so fast that I can barely enjoy 2nd gear on the street, and it has another 1,500 revs to work with.

Having spent a good bit of time in both (I own a T) - I think they are both equally great - in different ways. The T definitely feels lighter on its feet. The GT3 sounds better and is more adaptable for track work. Since I don't do so much track time - more backroads - the T was my choice.
I think for your stated purpose, the T is a better fit.
cheers!
