Just ordered the Pilot Sport 4S and scheduled the shop for next week! I guess I'll put up the Cup2 for sale if anyone in the Washington DC area is interested.

Why not N spec? Out of stock or other?

you do it yourself? Did you do the wheel wells? What material did you use? etc.

I love to hear the engine, but pebbles kicking up into the wheel wells not so much! Thanks in advance for any information.
Yes, I DIY the sound deading. It was around $200 in parts, picked up a dynamat knock off kit, and then some acoustic foam to place over that. It was around 30lbs added to the car. Did both doors, the floors, up to the rear shelf. Since my car has a cage, I was unable to remove the side panels (cage would have to come out) also did not do the fender liners.

It was around 10 hours total labor over a couple of days. The cage and LWB made everything more challenging. Removing the seats should be the first thing done, it's easy and gives you way more access. I placed the dynomat in logical places, just cutting to fit. Covered everything with the sheets of foam, just cut, peal and stick. My thought process is the foam weighs nothing, so put it everywhere, and the dydnamt is heavy, and you don't need a ton of it to work. Be more strategic in its placement. My doors are almost full coverage.

The result is the radio sounds 100% better! cabin noise is still there it's just a lot less, and not as harsh. Engine noise appears to be unaffected. Tire noise is also way down, it's still there, just in the background instead of being everywhere.

I did a post with products and pictures in one of the radio upgrade threads.

Can you explain why the 4S would have more grip than cup2 in dry street conditions?

Not an apples to apples comparison, but I have 4S on an M3 and R8 V10+, and they don’t have the amazing grip and connected feel of the cup2 on a gt3rs. I worry the 4s is a compromise on a non compromise car, which most owners have other cars serving that purpose. I’m not trying to prove a point, but I too am here badly in need of new tires. I was originally 100% 4s, but since they’ve been out of stock I’ve been reconsidering. I’m not experienced when it comes to tires, but I keep hearing about the new cup2r if anyone can tell me if they would be an “upgrade” to the cup2 in any way. I would also love to hear more opinions regarding the driving differences btw 4s and cup2 in good weather conditions.

Out of stock where and for what car? If you're looking for GT3 sizes, Discount Tire Direct had them in stock and I had them in 3 days after buying. N0 and all..

On the track, where you can generate adequate tire heat, the MPSC2 and Dunlop Sport Maxx Race 2 will be better than the 4S. I've heard the cup2 R is even better on track, but not worth the price difference. On the street, for a car that will never see the track, this thread votes for the 4S. All these tires are available ands in stock on Tire Rack for the .2 GT3.

He most likely means in cooler temps, in dry conditions.

If that is what he means, I totally agree.

Thank you Stealth 993 for the sound deadening info. I will look for your post on that subject.

As for Michelin 4Ss versus Cup 2, now that I have over 600 miles on my Cayman GTS 4.0, I can report that they have plenty of grip for street you. Of course, I'm not saying that the have the same level of grip as the Cup 2s on my GT3 on a warm day, but I think that any tire that can make the G meter read over 1.0G without even squirming is more than adequate for my street purposes.
