I'm just beginning to delve into the 987 Cayman market, I'm curious about why this car only made it to $38,500. Was it the seats? the clear engine cover? Other issues that as the new kid on the block I am missing? Thanks in advance for comments.
Car didn't meet reserve. Reason is probably threefold.
1. Concerns (imho misplaced) about any track time
2. The used car market has been softening for four months and it's finally reaching Porsches
3. Owners haven't adjusted prices down yet.
I don't think the market is going to 'soften' a lot on these cars. I think you will see owners hold until the buyer regains their strength rather than sell short.
The market knows they are not making any more 987.2s. And most owners are not selling because they need the money. There may be a few but not enough to make a trend downward in pricing.
It just doesn't make sense to sell short because of the current economy when we all know the economy will recover at some point.

Did it really move that much recently? That nice red car here was listed for 45k. That seemed like always around the right price for a nice 987.2 S. And then Cayman Rs were about $60k for a while until they jumped more with covid and 997 craze/bleedover for special Porsches and everyone wanting the last of the hydraulic steering superstars. Base cars climbed a little from a few years ago, but it seemed like anything other than a Cayman R has been relatively flat, no?
2011 base PDK, 117,000 mi. with a couple dings/body repair events, $22K
Good deal (and negotiate down) for those not skittish about mileage/PDK/repairs looking to build a DE/TT day car
With more shops working on PDK's now, has value potential for a build. 2011 Porsche Cayman Navigation - PDK | Reseda CA | SoCal Auto Group
I wanted to let everyone know that I'm selling my 2011 Boxster S PDK. Running great, I've had all the necessary service done. I'm looking at getting a GR86. It's listed on CL Orlando.

Good Luck with the sale. Post up a picture and the final results.

Thanks, I'm just entering the market - still on the fence between 6MT and PDK+Sport Chrono. Looked it up and it's a sharp example, would be a really interesting flight down and road trip back up 41 if the spring weather plays nice
I believe this exact car is the high-water mark for a non-R 987 Cayman. Sold on BaT in summer 2022 from original-owner with 13,000 miles for $55,000. Now 9 months later it has another 4,000 miles on it (from a PCA member from the looks of it). Will be interesting to see what it sells at. I'm guessing somewhere around $42-48k.
As a reluctant PCA member, I can confirm that most other PCA members would do this.
I'm sorry - sounds like a conspiracy theory, if you ask me. :-)
Both my son and I are members. I was going to say that you could eat off my car's engine - that is until I looked closely at this pic and saw all the dust.
I'd like to think I cleaned it up soon after I took the below pic! :-)
