I feel like the moral of the story here is:
1) don't do PTS on a base (or S) model
2) if you do, pick a good colour that has wide appeal (aka: not purple)

If I didn't already have a 987.2 I'd be tempted to buy this one and then paint it.
or
3) Set a more realistic reserve

😉

I know this is for cars not listed on this site, but this seems like a ridiculously good price for this car listed here. 2010 Cayman S 6MT *Lots* of extras - Rennlist - Porsche Discussion Forums
May be a great deal for someone.

I think it was a bit underhanded of BAT to post the following car right after 9872SpeedYellowCS's car:

2012 Porsche Cayman R 6-Speed for sale on BaT Auctions - ending December 16 (Lot #93,520) | Bring a Trailer

Normally there wouldn't be a ton of overlap between an S and an R, even both with 6 speed manuals, but this is different. CS's car has a complete R suspension setup with Spyder wheels. The R has higher mileage and is lacking buckets. I feel like the hammer price of both of these will be very close, and I'd rather have the yellow car.

It also bugs me how BAT always says the R is 120lbs lighter than the S. That figure is only valid if the R has all of the lightweight spec, the seats and standard radio and AC delete. Without those you only have the weight reduction of the doors and fixed rear wing. Not sure how much those are worth, but definitely not 120lbs.

Just how it can go with BaT these days. It's after end of day and they have 649 auctions up right now. Unless your care is super rare there's always a chance there will be more than one up at any given time.

Unfortunately thats how it went. There were barely any Caymans on BAT for a while and then all of a sudden a flurry of My Car + Cayman R + GT4s + 718 GTS 4.0 all in manual.

Oh well a good selection to choose from for potential bidders!

You would think they would want to spread similar model auctions out / apart so they could get the best price for their sellers and the best comission for themselves. I think about listing my BS on their but, well, I guess you just set the reserve and live or die by it.

I'd be happy to answer any questions after the auction is over on the whole process. So far BAT has been very pleasant to deal with, my draft manager was honestly awesome and very attentive!

Considering how much I miss my old 987, this is a dangerous thread for me...

Buy this, drive it, drive any other Porsche in the range, even ones that are 2-3x the price and ask yourself, do I really need more?
I can confidently say the 987.2 is S is the last attainable enthusiast Porsche that is easily 90% or more of the experience I get with my GT3.
I liked these comments from that auction. Thats exactly how I feel about my car. The 987.2 feels like the peak value for Porsche, anything more expensive brings significantly diminishing returns. Yes, X car would be better but you have to spend A LOT to get relatively minor improvements.

I feel like the $44k selling price was fair. The only 987.2 S's that have sold on BaT for more in the last year have had significantly lower mileage.

I still sometimes kick myself for not buying an Aqua Blue Cayman R that was for sale here in 2017 and would agree that there isn't a better value in a modern Porsche anymore. Hell that guy who's selling his 987.2 base car in CA that thing sounds fantastic for under 30k.

Alrighty! I just won this auction: https://carsandbids.com/auctions/9WY...sche-boxster-s

We'll see if this is a case of be careful for what you wish for but it seems pretty like a decent deal. I've been looking for a 987.2 S for a while and missed on a couple of them in the last month. I'll post up an update in the forum when the car arrives and I actually get to drive it. In the meantime I'll start educating myself about the car. A buddy has a Cayman R and he's already got me started.
