You are not going to find the cleanest, lowest mileage, and cheapest most desirable model in the same ad.
If you find 3 out 4 it is worth taking a longer look at it.
This looks worth investigating if I was buying....GL with the hunt
Meh, 80k is nothing. These cars were made to be driven. One guy has over a quarter million miles on his, presumably original engine and trans. It doesn't appear to be the cleanest though as you noted.
To be clear - I was not saying don't look at it.
I was saying that there was a reason why it's priced the way it was priced.
It looks like a real R to me. Sill plates and Aero Kit are fairly hard to replicate. Aftermarket OZ wheels are a concern. If I was a betting man I'd bet this car has been crashed and a couple of the stock wheels destroyed hence the aftermarkets.
Out of an overabundance of caution I asked for them to scope the cylinders/paid the 300 dollars required. In speaking with the sales manager (I'm far away from Illinois) I was explicit in having them confirm there is no sign of cylinder scoring. The photos I received however...I am curious since these don't say much. The car left the country at one point, then came back.
For reference; I see Piston heads (with carbon build up) and I see grainy blurred 'here's us going in through the spark plug hole' but I have only the word of the people at the dealership that there were 'no signs of bore scoring, everything looked good'
