My 964 C2 Transformation Build Thread

You really need to look at the combination of engine torque curve and transmission as a whole. There are various ways to do that but I like thrust curves or acceleration curves, the latter take into account aero and weight
here's an example of a stock 964 w/ stock /03 trans vs the same motor w/ a custom geared 993, neither is ideal but the closer the tail of a lower gear is to the next gear the better, so long as the tail doesn't cross

What data do you need to plot this? I’ll have a dyno plot this week after the tuning. Motor is mostly stock, rebuilt well with 993rs cams stock induction/fueling, headers, software tune.
Imsuspect ill do a build on the motor but not for some time. I can always revisit trans again then.
Thx

If you use an iPad this app will get you started with the thrust curves - but it does not account for aero- just gear ratios and power output
https://veracitydata.com/shift-rpm-app/
As an example here is the stock 5 speed using dyno data from Steve Wong’s site for a chipped 964:

Wheel torque to RPM: should have after tomorrow
Rolling radius of tire: 25.6
Gear ratios: have that (stock now)
Cd: ~.32??
Std Q: will need help there :-)

OK i should have all those after Tues except for Cd, which would probably need to use the RSA spec for (Have the carrera style wing).

I use revs/mi instead of tire radius as it's a bit more accurate,

Steve Wong tuned the car today.
Car ran well. And for the basic mods it has, right on target. Light flywheel, headers, stock intake, relatively fresh rebuild, 993cams, 91 octane Ca fuel
I had a Wong chip in it, his custom tuning got another 10hp out of it and addressed some lean condition at higher revs, got consistently more power overall across the rev range, and addressed cold start and idle.
254 wheel on a dynojet with sae correction
he said car was spot on where he’d expect.
He worked on car for near 4 hours getting it good.
Happy with the result! I didn’t expect miracles, (will save that for the big build) it’s good to see the car is running and tuned well so i can go beat on it on track safely.
Dont have chart handy yet (i wasn’t there traveling this week) but its near spot on to this one with similar mods:

mooty can attest to this. Everything I’ve done was in the plan :-) is that still slippery slope? Lol

Look at that meaty tire tread! Can't wait to see track pictures.

Been following your progress for a while now. Well done! Those numbers are great and I'm sure the torque curve feels pokey in every gear. I like the custom BBi/Rothsport headers with heat. Very cool.
All this talk of custom geared G50's I figured I'd throw in my 2 cents for what its worth. I've regeared my G50/20 with all GT gears and its been a real treat. The gears are quite short but were chosen with a higher redline in mind when I make the switch to ITBs w/proper big cam.
with the stock 993 cams I find myself shifting at the rpms..Hopefully ;-)
3.50 - 40mph -6,500
2.294 - 61mph - 6,500
1.650 - 83mph - 6,300
1.286 - 105mph - 6,250
1.040 - 130mph - 6,250
0.857 - 170mph - 6,750_redline
at 3,200rpm in 6th gear I'm doing roughly 80mph. She just boogie's but I drive the car on the street only and some track drivers may prefer different.
