My 964 C2 Transformation Build Thread
Oh the sacrilege! Taking a perfectly original, super clean C2 and messing with it! Well you know what they say, pay now or pay later so we start clean and have a clean/nice canvas to start with. Car is a 1991 C2, Red/black. Sport options: 030 suspension, LSD, sport seats. Engine and trans were just rebuilt 2k miles ago. Car has 95k miles. Very clean example, mostly original paint.
My goal is pretty simple: A car with the spirit of my 997RS, air cooled, for dual street and track use. Agile, simple, light, and kinda loud. Goal right now is "Carrera Cup for the Street". Maybe go RSR but more I think about it more I think I may keep it skinny and with sunroof and AC (hey it's a street car!) Phase 1 - suspension, interior, weight reduction, and LOTs of other mods Phase 2 - Engine and transmission build, cup electric steering, guard LSD Phase 3 - This is up in the air I may keep it skinny, but this would be a full repaint, light glass, big wing, wide body, sunroof delete. Will be posting pics and progress over the next few months. Phase one target finished by end of Feb. Car as it sits today. Seats will move to my 89 g body. They are awesome. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...bf073c00f.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...3ead506d8.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...0ddd29ef1.jpeg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...7bb02174a.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...2a6d70ca3.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...755937df6.jpeg |
Good luck with the project! I look forward to watching the progress. :corn:

Looking forward to this build developing.
What are your plans for the engine, surely you're not having it rebuilt? |

While waiting for a very long list of parts to come in and to schedule with my chassis guy who will do that piece first, I did a couple requisite mods. Rs door panels and rs styled frunk carpet. Door panels are app biz. They are local to me so I went over there. This is a legit business with real machines and real staff making parts. Fitment was perfect and they look great. Bob who owns the business is a real big Porsche enthusiast. I got some felt carpet from him and made a frunk piece similar to what came in the rs. Functional light and looks much better than the oem piece I think. Made 2 one is going to a friend. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...dad933c1a.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...03ab30edf.jpeg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...31663c878.jpeg |
Gearing. I changed the gearing on my "hotrod" build, and all I can say is: Holy Sh!t !!! This is the way the car should have come from the factory.

What gearing did you go to? |
^^^^ yes what did you do? Full rehear? Rp only? I have some ballparks for a proper rehear and it's well $$$ :-)

It sounds like we have similar tastes and priorities. My 94 c2 arrives in a week. And my evolution priorities are in line with yours. I used to do chassis work for other, but I'm not familiar with these cars. I've been looking at KW club sports as my first purchase. Where in SoCal are you? I'm in Newport. Might be fun to connect if you are interested...at a minimum at a cars and coffee event...or at the track. :)

Matt I'll probably be going with kW clubsport 2 ways with custom spring rates. Ohilns ttx is the other choice but a LOT more money (close to 10k) they are SO GOOD though. My chassis guy really only does kW or ohlins. He's put the kW on many 964 and 911 and he really likes them. I've driven a couple cars with and they are good. Supple and very controlled. |
More info on the frunk carpet please!

Yes, looks great
Cut 1 board for the bottom and another for the front. Lay on carpet and glue, allow about 1/4 between pieces (use a single piece so front is like a flap). Use a couple pieces of cardboard to template. It's not perfect. I decided to just keep bottom piece rectangle vs making it too intricate. It rests on metal shelf under gas tank and abs cover, in front it sits on 2 braces and top of battery. Front flap just sort of sits there so may find a way to clip it. I did have to remove a couple plastic covers on the front. Hers a pic of backside. I'm not an auto interior person so forgive the ****ty seams on the bottom lol and the glue I hadn't cleaned up yet. But this gives idea of the 2 pieces held together with the felt carpet. Lower picture is the factory rs piece https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...30b7e95fb.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...ff2eff304.jpeg |
