We didn't weigh it all out - we did take a weight of car before it started strip down and will when its done.
The CAD program said about 50lbs based on materials selected and sizing.
My target weight is 2750 ready to go. We should be close to that with the cage added, but we are taking more weight off (flywheel, exhaust, the interior strip, sunroof delete, etc).
OK nice .. I just did mine (44mm hoop (1.75in) and 40mm (1.575in) chromoly with 1mm walls to save weight ... it's really just a glorified har(d)ness bar modelled on the 993 Cup cage (Driver B top to Passenger B bottom and Passenger B top to driver rear seat wheel arch interior corner) so much less complete than yours but makes a material difference. I got it back last week powder-coated .. weighs 11.3kg (24.9 lbs) so a bit more than I expected but happy enough and even without B gussets it feels way more rigid ... also did the slightly rear of B pillar hoop positioning (looks great from the side and gives a bit more room for the seat to move back if your legs are long). Did the fennlane delete as you suggested at the same time .. worth noting that a good spot welder and panel beater means dramatically less filler is required and I'm glad we took a extra day just to work on the shape and reduce the need for filler. Interesting the rear screen weighs 8kg! Had to come out for the headliner to go in nicely. ... and thanks, your thread got me properly motivated to get the next level!
^^ Wow that looks really nice. My cage has a little narrower rear profile as we went through the firewall and tied to the suspension points, we also gusseted to the B pillar. But otherwise pretty similar. We ended up with a thicker hoop and thinner materials for the rest.
Here are a few pics of the cage. I will get more this week when I get back to the shop.
yes I saw the firewall through-posts are way narrower than I would have expected but once I looked into the engine bay I see the mounts are quite a way from the corners .. wierd I've looked at them 100 times and still hadn't noticed that lol. Roof looks flawless .. worth the extra effort for sure.
Luckily I have this 993 nut&bolt resto going on near me so we could model off it very closely .. guy had this white cup for years and then found out from factory that it was originally Riviera .. no brainer!
Note the weld 'tidyness' is not very high .. but cleaning welds not allowed for race spec I guess.
Wow what a great build thread ! Im so glad is stumbled upon this
I have "known" BBi/Joey since Matt Farah "TST" did his first ever /Tuned show on Drive... and reviewed Project-Angry a few years ago.
Thanks for the documentation again, it really was fun to check it all out... .
Was at the shop this afternoon. I really should have taken some pictures. Located MOST of the parts for the build, they are all at the shop... now if we can just find those headers! :-)
