Teardown begins. Suspension madness...

So on the spacers and the hubs...most of us have front hubs with a solid centering ring. I was going to cut mine, as I had done in the back, but found a set of the later hubs and since I had to pull the hubs to do wheel bearings anyway, made sense to swap them out. The later hubs have three prongs for centering, and the elephant spacers from 7mm on up, are designed to work with these hubs and they don't work with the early hubs with the full ring. So...I don't have a picture right now of the early hubs, but if you have those, grab an angle grinder and simply cut the ring so the spacers will work.this allows you to use bigger spacers and not lose the centering ring. Longer studs will be needed. I went to 55mm front studs and 60mm rear.
Here are the fronts:
And in the rear, we have three prongs, but the elephant spacers are made to work with the later version of the three prong hubs...so the prongs get in the way. So I cut and shaped the prongs to get them out of the way, primed and painted and all good:
Once you get over 12mm, most of the spacers have a full ring exposed, so no need for any of this cutting, but for 7-11mm, they pretty much will either have no centering ring on the spacer or they will require the prongs to be correct on the hubs..make sense?

Ah I didn't see those. Would love to add remote adjusters in the rear. They may only get used once or twice. But nice to have.
Can you post me a link? I can't seem to find where he was talking about them. If they are plug and play, I'll do it. I had looked for a remote solution but didn't find anything that wasn't a hack job....

My car went on the ground today. I spent the morning bleeding it. Then took it off the jack stands and spend a bunch of time going up and down with the Jack, setting ride height. Basically just a quick first round. I also eyeballed the toe front and rear and camber. Looks like my eyes are pretty good, cuz the car feels ok and tracks straight and doesn't run dog leg at all. Luck?
Anyway. Yes I'm that good. I'll give myself a pat on the back (until I completely blow it on the next car)...
So then with the bleed this am...I don't know. Maybe I did a terrible job? I was very careful to poor the fluid into the motive slowly to not make air bubbles in the fluid and then to subsequently pump them into my system...did a full bleed. The return on my clutch is terible and the brake pedal is super squishy. So clearly I left air in there somewhere. But ok. I had the calipers off for a month. I should have run a lot more fluid through the system. So I'll have to re-bleed maybe next week after I drive it a bit.
I've got some kind of banging clunk in the rear. Could be loose top hats. Could be the bolts for the end links to the sway bars knocking agains the trailing arms. I'll have to figure that out.
The kW v3 feel like they have huge potential, but they aren't set up and they are currently way too uncomfortable.
The function first transmission mount is awesome. Feels great. And doesn't add a lot of vibration.
New wheel bearings and axles makes a huge difference.
Elephant sport bushings - awesome.
Rod end links. Very immediate. Love them.
Monoballs. I'll know more once everything is set up, but I really enjoy how firm everything is. The entire suspension is so much more well behaved - can't wait to set it up properly and really suss it all out.
The new headlights are way better in my opinion than standard h4 lenses. New fog lights ty Mike.
H an R swaybars. Love the flatness and the feel. And because the car doesn't lean much, I can use a good street alignment setup and not go with huge tram lining negative camber, which is a great plus.
Everything about this kind of a project is worth doing. I've got two more lined up to do, and then the bay is free, so feel free to mail me a car in July for full restoration and upgrade of all the moving parts. I'm rather enjoying this. It's not cheep, but worth every penny to make new all the old, to correct what Porsche got wrong, and to upgrade in an intelligent way, making the car far more right than it had ever had a chance to be prior...
