Great AMERICAN 964s for sale
#4051
Horizon Blue Targa up in Canada rear ended another car and had some straightening on left side. Dealer requires buyer to sign a non refundable deposit and bill of sale before seeing car, they verbally say "you dont have to buy it if you dont like it". Never heard of signing a bill of sale before seeing a car, especially when front of bill of sale states to read fine print of opposite side for t's & c's. The back side wasn't supplied!
Don't know how to verify mileage with no mileage readings on car fax until 72000 kilometers.
Sketchy hard core sales tactics. Passed on it because of that and diminished value of wreck.

This one above is the one I went to see today. Totally misleading Ad and website description. The car is a beater. Rust is the least of your concerns. Looks like it has spent the last 5 years under a tree. Offered $25k to take it off their lot on the spot and they said they turned down offers at $50K which I do not believe for a second. GM said owner is doing a favor for a friend and listed it. Car has all keys and books but no service records and all screws are rusted. Would not start even with battery boost. They have it out back next to the junk cars. Front fender bender is evident and rear lights cracked and targa top cracked. What a joke and total waste of my time driving up there. Do not believe the 88k ODO either based on visual condition of car. I shed a tear as I drove away in my 993C2S which the sales associates were all gawking at while I was taking a look at the 964. They are a legit Mitsubishi dealer but with some off cars like this Porsche and a couple of Benzs. What a shame. Oh well. On to the next...

That dealer is dreaming, but If you think car dealers are stupid you must not have been shopping for one of these for a while and seen the ridiculous prices private owners are asking, 92 Coupe with 68K in NY for $95,000 , another 1990 coupe black on pelican just heard from a broker that the owner wants $90,000 and a 1990 Targa seal gray autotrader owner wants $85,000, or the 90 coupe with 200,000 plus miles the seller now says he wants 50 for it, i would say dealers are a lot more realistic than private owners, and you have recourse if something goes wrong. I've been shopping for the rite car for months and private owners are way more bigger dreamers than dealers.

RPM pricing has always been optimistic and they don’t seem to mind waiting for the right buyer to come along. Years ago I made an offer on a 96 993 NB that had 12k miles on it. Car was mint and in the color combo I wanted but the price was at least $15k higher than anything else on the market. I tried to negotiate down and was ready to purchase but they told me they had another buyer lined up willing to pay closer to their asking price so I backed off. Nearly 12 months later the car finally sold. Typical car dealer tactics.
Still theirs also the argument that very few low mileage as new Targa’s exist and if that’s what you want you need to pay up. Should be interesting to see how long it takes to sell.

this has always been my point. if they can sit on a car indefinitely, they can artificially adjust the market by reducing the supply. i know it an open market and crap, but that still bugs me on cars that are limited in quantity to begin with. if fair market is say $70k, but they (multiple dealers) sit on a car at $90k, the remaining cars and owners can now inch theirs up to $75-80.

Seems to be so. But there are still good deals out there.

i looked on hemmings and have been seeing same cars not selling for months sometimes a year, these dealers and private owners many times they want so much money for the cars they are dreamers.

Maybe. Although they may sit for a year or more If it is a quality low mile car that needs nothing they find a buyer willing to pay their price or close to it eventually. A lot of these sellers don't need to sell so they sit and wait. There are a ton of people willing to pay more than market for a car that suits their needs. There is an entire world of buyers that never visit forums that don't care what they spend if the car is what they want. The sellers just wait until the right buyer comes along.

the best thing buyers can do [imo] is resist the urge to buy at inflated prices. of course, an inflated price for one person is a drop in the bucket for someone else, so it's all relative.
