Recently the sister to my cobalt blue with light gray interior 22k miles with considerable modifications to the interior, engine and suspension sold for $169k. The interesting thing about this car is it sold by word of mouth through the forums with almost no advertising. Apparently they were inundated with calls had many other interested parties and sold in less than 24 hours.

The 3.3's are still hit or miss depending on mileage condition and options.

So this is the car I mentioned a few months ago for sale for $21k in Westhampton, NY. Now it is on Ebay for $39k and they haven't added a single mile. So much for trying to help out the community.

I didn't think used car dealers had a responsability to "help out the community"......

The car was for sale at another dealer near me for nearly a year. It left their lot within 24 hours of me posting about it on this thread. I only mentioned it here because I wanted other enthusiast to be able to acquire a car. Now a new dealer is reselling it at nearly a 100% markup from the old price.

That is why I am disappointed.

I admire your good intentions in posting the car's availability but I also think it's beyond naive to believe that dealers and flippers aren't lurking on an enthusiasts' forum waiting to pounce on the very deals that enthusiasts themselves are seeking.

You can be sure that all the big name re-sellers are either looking or are paying their employees to look through sites like Pelicanparts or Rennlist for prospects, the same as you and me.

Yes but that doesn't matter. Enthusiasts will always pay more than a reseller, so posting here won't make a difference unless there's no interest from enthusiasts.

I don't follow your logic.

If a car is posted for sale and the first to respond (with an over-asking offer or a full-asking offer) happens to be a dealer/flipper, how does this not make a difference? At this point, price is irrelevant to the discussion. We're talking about who sees the listing first here: dealer/flipper versus enthusiast -- not who is willing to pay the most.

Not to butt heads, but you're picking a very unique situation where someone posts a below market price and despite a wave of interest will still honor the price to the first person who messaged them. Real world typically doesn't work like that.

In fact, the car in question sat on a dealer's lot for a year. I'm sure all the other flippers dealers including Mike took a look at it and couldn't make the numbers work, but an enthusiast could. I think posting it here was a fine deed and should always be done. Because the world typically works where the guy willing to pay the most wins assuming information is universal.

You raise a valid point however my position is still that it's foolish if you think that these forums aren't being trawled by lurking dealers/flippers/re-sellers.

The internet has levelled the playing field and many times, buying a car isn't a matter of paying the most (real life car buying isn't an auction either) but being the first to show up with the cash.

I called him earlier and it's already gone. He told me the first person to call him wrote a check on the spot and that he was very happy with the sale price as he bought it for much less a few years ago.
