I went to check out this car today: looks nice!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1991-Porsche...m=142266245559

There is a gap on the front right light that does not convince me and overall I'd rate it a 7/10.

Definitely a drivers car / not a collectors car.

Funny how it appreciated $25k in 2 years

Cadrega, do you mean $15k? and "appreciated" may be a loose term. More like the changing hands demanding a profit.
Over the past 4-5 yrs, it's my belief that most of the value elevations were caused by re-sellers flipping & demanding profit,... so the asking prices go up&up&up. crazy how it got out of hand. { Bummer too, because 20something kids like my son (just out of college) really wanted to buy a air cooled 80's SC to play with,... but the jump has put them out of reach for most younger gens. }

bweSteve ops yes - sorry - too many beers last night...!

Yes I agree with what you are saying. I just sold my NSX and even in that community people just want to flip cars. I made money after I sold mine but I did NOT buy it with the intent to make money. I did because I loved that car, while so many people just flip them and flip them.

I am not going to whine about 911 prices but it's hard to justify paying $40k for a carrera 3.2 when for the same price you can get an equally gorgeous Carrera S.

But of course here I am, luring the rennlist forum for a nice air cooled and going to see a 965 TOTALLY out of my price range !

Guys just wanted to let you know I sold the car today for 30K as promised. It went quickly to the person 3rd in line. A pretty cool guy from LA. He got a great car and I got a fair deal in my opinion.
Good luck in you searches.

looked at the one in palm desert. carfax is not great with all kinds of mileage issues and the history doesn't exist after 2011. had some rust in the corner of the front window that was painted over. had different brands of sound deadening under carpets and passenger door had a lot of dings. i will say on the test drive the car was fast and shifted great. defiantly more power than stock.

Thanks for reporting back here on your visit to this car. Interesting.

They seemed to do a good job cleaning it up for the pics (although maybe not the engine bay), and from a disclosure standpoint they do have close up pics in many areas, EXCEPT the rust you describe in the lower corner of windshield. so that's probably marketing strategy trying to get customer to come in and start a negotiation.

So the question is whether a example like this, desirable 964 C2 in color combo with less than 100k miles,... is it worth it to be in the $41k to $43k range?

Most of what is described could be remedied. But of course there is no detailed "write-up" on the car, and no mention of maintenance history, etc, etc.... so I'm only cursory with no real interest in buying (other side of country & all).

Hmmmm....

well i can tell you from the carfax she is well past 100k. i drove 3 hours to go see this car and was pretty disappointed. the seller told me the spot by the window had paint worn so it was touched up. i lifted the glass moulding and saw metal rusted through. there were other issues but these were off the top of my head. darn iPhones these days, making anything look good these days. what a waste of time. also was asking 43k then dropped to 39k when i saw it and now back up to 43K
