A brief report on the Castle Combe trackday held yesterday by Porsche Club GB .

The circuit is very popular with racers , car and bike , and is set in the heart of the English countryside ....in spite of this the noise regs are pretty stringent , most days there is a 100db limit , this day it was 105db.....even so at least one of our 964s exceeded this ( 107 ) and had to fit a supertrap exhaust cap.

There were only about 16 cars there , of which 4 were 964s

The circuit is also notoriously bumpy.... the youtube videolink below will give an idea of this . Just a clip of me being chased by Boxsey ( Steve ) , hence looking in the mirror while chasing a Boxster , which appeared to have enough power to pull away....for a while .

964s are tremendous fun...the engine sounds great , the car is tough and will soak up track punishment , the iconic 911 view down the bonnet between the front fenders .......brilliant

Thanks Alex , it was a great trackday and the circuit suits our cars as the straights are not too long so the big hp boys cannot get away with bullying . Yes it was the sensor cable going thru a small window opening....yet to look at the data

Just wanna say what a great day Alex and I have just had at Rockingham.

888's gave me much better feel with the car and it was nice to go hunting caterhams.....I'm downloading the video as I type and will post later in the week.....

Thanks to Alex for a great fun day. His Skyline has a fan in a rather nice young lady.....I'll let him explain!

nice vid OT - hope some more shots of your pumpkin from whoever was chasing.
Def a bumpy track - no more big events running there? - but great flow.

LoL on the Boxer outbreaking himself and getting some air on the rough stuff

Oldtimer summed up the day at Combe very nicely. Here's a compilation of my time on track....mostly chasing him

HiWind, there's still plenty of racing at Castle Combe. The Porsche championship was there the weekend before and the British Touring cars go there each year. There are still plenty of crashes at Quarry, hence you'll see we're always braking at Avon rise and take it cautiously on the run down to Quarry.

Good fun day, I got the data logging working at last so I've got some video too, though i can't any evidence of any naughty behaviour

Rockingham "SSC short" (1.9 miles so not that short) is surprisingly fiddly and technical, every corner has something to make it interesting and slightly frustrating trying put a clean lap together even though it was really quiet and we had lots of clear runs.

Here's a quick handheld vid of a Hornet flyby with flames

I've been on a nerdarama data binge, check it out!

The red run is the fastest of the day, 2 secs quicker than any other, mid morning. I was clearly somewhat motivated chasing down a flapping fast Mk2 Golf, I swear I heard a bov so I'm saying it was turbo'd but deep down I suspect it was a just a 1.8 valver

What's interesting is that despite my really inconsistent driving there are some parts of the track where the driver makes no difference - corners were all my laps were basically the same. And a couple of places where a bit of bravery leaving your foot in a little longer, holding a gear 500rpm longer and braking deeper makes a few seconds per lap difference.

Some DIY ROM tuning shenanigans:

This time the blue dots are from the faster lap, 1.2g max under brakes and left and right, 0.5g acceleration

The mess on the left is the long triple apex left hander. The spike upto 0.6g acceleration while turning right is is a glob of opposite lock when I got excited chasing the Golf.
