The bottom line, I loved my car before joining Rennlist. But through reading threads, meeting Rennlisters in London, Wales and Donington, track day excusions, trips through Europe my feeling of respect and adoration for my car has transcended love.

That is exactly the same mental state I was in as I drove home from my last track event.
On that weekend, I ended up driving hundreds of miles in heavy rain, spun the car, and split my 2ndary muffler...but on the drive home I was all smiles.
Great story Frank!

Nice one Frank, sounds like the fun out weighed the trauma.

Great write up Frank and good to meet you finally even if it wasnt until 11pm after i had been on the beers from 6pm with Boxsey and co Will try and get to the next London meet.

One question though....when you went to the tyre shop on Sat eve did you say to the guy "I'm a man I have needs...2 dodgy jap spec rear tyres that wont bankrupt me and might last an hour on track should do it" ;P

Got my pics in the post yesterday so will throw a few of mine up. The trio of Guards Red 964's in the 1 garage is a good un etc etc.

My fav bit of the track was coming down into the hill into Craners...drifting wide there out of the cnr and hammering the beast up the hill up into McCleans.

Trickiest bits were coming round McCleans and Coppice and also found Redgdate difficult...that is...always turning in a bit too early and then having to wait far too long to get the power down

BU Out!

Absolutely agreed.

I found Redgate difficult aslo, found myself turning much later than instructed in order not come off!

Look forward to your pics!

Talking Starter Motor & more GT One praise

So as aforementioned my starter motor had packed up.

For convenience I took it to my local specialist ( Those who now my thread, will know who my local is... ) that charges £85 labour p/h... since it's just a starter motor replacement shouldn't cost more than hours labour plus the part, right?

Wrong! I was quoted 3 hours labour plus a serious mark up on the trade price of the starter motor. All in all it was a quote of £600!!!

A quick call to Craig at GT One for a second opinion. He quoted an hours labour £60 and the starter motor at cost £130.80! Craig even said he was happy to supply the part to my local specialist at cost!

I called up the local and its was an uncomfortable conversation ( I kept my cool and said nothing ) and I quote,

"We're trying to make a decent living."
"You've clearly spent a small fortune on it recently and now your supplying your own parts."
"It's the problem with you internet people, you think you know better than us."
"I can't work under these conditions."

I made my piece thanked him for his past help and expressed that the last thing I wanted to do is make him uncomfortable and that I wouldn't trouble him with my custom again.

WHAT A JOKE AND A RIP OFF!!!! or maybe Craig is just a saint?

Safe to say I won't be taking my car to him again and will stick to where I know I'll be in good hands, GT One.

( Seriously I don't work for GT One, just a very happy customer! )

Anyway I pick the car up and drive straight to Craig. Naturally I expect to leave the car there since I have no appointment and pick it up in the coming days. Wrong again!

Craig clears a ramp instantly puts my car up and asks me if I'd like to wait the 45 minutes it'll take... Yes, he has the part in stock!

45 minutes later I have the car back with a new starter motor fitted and my clutch bled ( it needed it ). Craig charged me no labour! All in it was £180!

Now that is a result! Anyway I'm happy it's the 1st tomorrow!!!!!!!

Default Steve Wong Chip install and review.

Steve Wong Chip

Well the chip arrived with a thorough and lightly illustrated installation guide.

The install went rather smoothly, easily and quickly.

Having absolutely no experience with computer internals it was a little daunting at first.

I would recommend anyone to tackle this job. Minor tools are necessary.

The results are excellent. The idle was always strong on my car but now it is rock solid @900 RPM from start up.

The power delivery is very linear/ smooth and available throughout the rev range/ from lower revs. Which makes for more acceleration throughout. I would be happy to believe the car is more powerful by 25hp.

It just makes the car more refined regarding power delivery, you find yourself not waiting as much till you hit that magical 5000 RPM. I would be confident in stating that off the line it's faster than stock.

These are just preliminary feelings as I haven't had the time to give the car a proper test drive so I will deliver more findings soon.

The chip is also said to eliminate stalling issues with the LWF and air con which it does, but at the same time I didn't think these were as severe as others have mentioned. Just takes a little getting used to. I honestly think the car's drivability is just as good and pleasant as pre LWF. I was stuck in traffic coming back from Donington ( Two old Maserati broke down on the motorway causing 1hr 45min tailbacks ) and It was just as unbearable being stuck in traffic as it would have been with a standard flywheel.

Would I recommend this upgrade? Yes.

So the stock chip is safe and sound incase I ever want to change back.
Here are photos of the install and a nice green C2 @GT One!

About the same as the estimate I came up from my experience of having one changed. Good to hear that you got it a similar price and avoided being trapped into paying a ridiculous price.

I wondered if you guys would have issues heading back into london. I was stuck on the M25 for about an hr and moved about 7miles. It really is a sh&* road when someone breaks down or a lane is closed (haha..just needed to rant there)!!!

Any chance you can PM the cost of the LWF and clutch Frank as per GT Ones prices (part price incl VAT + hrs of labour to fit)? Who do you contact for the SW chip? is there a different chip for a C2 vs C4 and a car without aircond? any indication of price on that would be useful as well.
