Top adjustable struts need access through the top mounts, so we do the same trick as Weissach by machining out the centre of the original caps. Note the cap threads are pre-treated with blue loctite; when you fit these you have to torque them in one and should you ever need to remove them you must warm up the housing with a heat gun to prevent ripping out the threads.

The rear top mounts have been re-drilled to suit the early 964 rear crossmember.

Exploded assembly shows the full selection of OEM 964RS parts, tall spacer fits under the bearing, above the rubber seal.

Assembly of the front end parts has begun. The wheel bearings have been shruk fit into the GT2 Evo housings, now waiting on a pair of retainer plates before the hubs are fitted.

Front struts ready to fit in the car with the 993RS top mounts. Note that to fit these you have to modify the oval holes in the strut tops for clearance on the body of the centre bearing carrier. Guess who forgot....?

Work on the car is also progressing slowly.

Doors were built up & windows fitted a few weeks ago - somehow that update slipped through the net whilst I was abroad working.

Steering column fitted with ignition lock.

Four channel ABS requires a 4 hole bulkhead fitting. Another minor mod to do on the shell. Underneath we have already started fitting the factory 993 4 channel brake lines.

GT3 gearlever in place in the modified centre tunnel, now awaiting custom made cables.

That's fantastic - let us know how it works out...Could potentially be a big improvement, seeing as how with the accelerometers, etc when you hit a bump, everything kicks in and brakes go away...Anything to upgrade would be great.

New accelerometers anyone?

New 993RS/GT2 steering arms and boots arrived this morning.
Note that the inner section of the RS arm does not have a rubber damper for a more positive steering feel and minimal distortion under load. Unfortunately you can't fit these as they are to a non-RS 993 because of the different hub geometry, but you can use the inner section with the standard 993 track rod end & shaft. I mention this because one of the best mods to do to a 964 for improved turn-in is to replace the front uprights with a 993 unit.

Rear dampers now built up ready to fit.

New set of handbrake shoes fitted to the rear arms. We'll be fitting the rhs rear arm first so that Marc can get working on the GT3 gear linkage and see the working clearance required.

And the wheel rolls on.

Here's a close up of the later 993 style strut top hole which allows clearance on the 993RS top mount and a shot of the rear end assembly going together. Oil tank has been fitted to guage clearance for modification of the RSR brake ducts.

Default GT3 ABS

Robin has also made a start on the ABS system by fitting the GT3 valve block onto a custom support that picks up on the original boot floor mountings.

One pipe down, five more to go.

Added title.....

Default A modest suggestion . . . . .

This "little" modification has worked well for me. Previously my brake shoes were getting cooked to pieces and there was probably way too much heat retention inside the brake bell housing which couldn't have been good for the wheel bearings either.

Interesting mod - but can't honestly say we've ever had a problem with hot handbrake shoes unless they are adjusted incorrectly or left on by accident. The mod is also a bit of a catch 22: I can see that it saves weight and definitely allows the heat out of the bell, but it also allows an ingress of water from rain & car washing which may cause more problems that it solves.

First off colin, car looks fantastic. When you say 993 upright, do you mean the regular upright, or the rs upright? Reason I ask is I put the regular 993 uprights in my 964, and it did wake the car up, and I could never really figure it out. I just thought we always had a bad alingment on it.
