Imagine passing on a car because you didn't like the color the fan was painted..... Though that describes lots of the folks on the BAT board.
I don't think that a blue fan, by itself is going to create a pass for most people...but combined with some other things might detract from some higher bids.
I do have to say....this conversation has gone a lot more towards the purist direction than I have seen lately. Really makes me worried to start wrenching on my RSA.
RSABebe cited more than just the painted fan (which screams 912 converted to turbo look in Miami circa 1986) but it also says a lot about the shop that did the phantom engine reseal.
More surprising than that to me was the no sale targa going over the block under $90k; it’s all about who shows up to bid.
We can nit pick these cars all day (there is some **** retentive Hun in all of us) but I think some of us forget these cars are far from new, each one will have a story or 2 from the years on the road. Not to mention the years the 964 spent as a sub $20k used car.
Steve Weiner (RIP) told me something a few years back that I think applied to the 964 at one point. He explained that the 996 is the first “disposable” 911. In the sense that with 996 prices in the high teens and low 20s (I know, not anymore) if your IMS went and took the motor with it, a rebuild was more than the car was worth, so junk it. There was a long period this was also true for the 964; when I bought mine in 2008, you could pick and choose cars priced in the teens. Major service/new clutch/AC charge about $4k back then, how many owners stayed on top of that on a $15,000 car?
Really reinforces the adage that you buy the owner too, not just the car.
PS I just don’t get buying a car sight unseen at auction. $100,000 car and you can’t hop on a plane for a day?
I hate to say it but we are seeing a slump in the market in general we are down about 15-30% depending on the car from early 2022. The uncertainty of our future is in the back of many people's minds. However a truly special car with low miles that checks all the boxes will probably not be impacted as these will be gobbled up by the uber wealthy collector. There are mnay willing to fight over the right car.
I would think with 911Jetta's years of posting the car would have done better. Although his absence and change over of most rennlist readers seems to have him forgotten quickly. Most everything everyone is complaining about are easy fixes. Even the seats can be dyed at little to no expense. I never liked Cobalt over classic grey that shot the targa down for me. If it was the light grey or black I think it would have done better. Although as you see more and more RNM. I think a lot of the crap that went down with Symbolic and others got the attention of many so now many are gun shy from buying sight unseen as well. Which is probably a good thing.
Sadly there was a time when 964's were just disposable metal and you could have your pick of some very nice cars for under $30k and some cars with needs for under $15k. The cost of repairs and lack of availability of parts isn't helping either.
I do find it interesting as I am seeing many very nice examples being snathced up only to have them completely converted to something else. I am seeing some very nice cars at some reputable shops having more $$ dumped into them then the purchase price. Taking very nice WB cars and converting them into turbo S looking clones and building High Hp engines for them. So it is a strange world we live in.

it's your car, modify as desired. that said, i may take a slightly different approach than some. after many, many cars over the years, i am less prone to overdo the mods on any individual car. i'm to the point where i typically do what could be referred to as 'level 1' mods. all my cars have coilover suspension, heavy exhaust mods, wheels/tires, and maybe a tune/chip upgrade. beyond that, i like my interiors pretty much as delivered - although my 993 does have 996 sport seats (like the ones in my GT3). i bought them years ago for $750 and they still serve their purpose (still have stocks seats). i don't even do short shifters anymore. beyond that, i keep all original parts and all of my cars can pretty much go back to stock config if someone down the road wants it that way. the 964 is one of the great modifiable cars and it's great that people put their stamp on their example. i love the original appearance and lines of these cars, i'm not attempting to make them anything different really.
i sold my RSA a long time ago with 29k miles. it was a 4 option car in stock form - minus Ruf and Fikse wheels. if i still had that exact example, i'd probably leave it that way based on current values. it depends what you're starting with, imo.

Same approach here. Suspension + bolt ons + wheels on just about everything. I do like personalized interiors, but usually only very subtle and reversible touches. My cars look OE on the outside save wheels and ride height. My RSA has RS fog dummies and euro side markers, but completely stock exterior otherwise. I did come across these on IG and am very tempted. Would look incredible against my midnight blue metallic and maritime interior accents … But I’m assuming that’s a custom recovering, and this place is in Europe …

For the most part, I am. I'm referring to anything from stock. I'm far from a purist but some of these cars are getting beat up pretty badly in the comments. When I die (hopefully decades from now) - I don't want to leave the wife with something you all are going to try to buy cheap, lol.
The C4 Lightweight that failed to sell on BaT is going up for auction again this time with Broad Arrow. Will be quite a selection of Porsche’s up for auction at that venue. Expecting 50 or more cars.
1992 C4 with 152,000km asking CAD$158,000.
This is close to Ferrari F430 territory. Yikes.
so, that's $115k US for a C4 with sunroof delete and and sport seats. gray interior is not high on most people's list, though.
seems like a somewhat optimistic listing and something that might sell in the $100k range if someone loves the car. of course, availability could be a bigger factor than i'm allowing for in CA.
I like this car and I like the creativity of the photos. The miles seem kind of the mama bear range, not low and not high. That said enough that you would want to know much more than is stated. I am partial to GPW so I was immediately drawn to it. Given it is being advertised here it seems like it should be in the prices thread.
