964 Prices

Hey jeff thanks for the post
I had considered painting the H4 rings but my wife who drives the car liked them as is so I left them, next owner can change that if they want
the rear bumper cut out is definitely not ideal but not much I can do about that at this point
motor mounts are good I'd guess they were replaced when the engine was rebuilt as they look quite new, as for the build itself, I have the invoices for all the parts and such, and like one picture but it was done by a guy here in town at Reno rennsport who has done a bunch of them (previous owner worked for the shop who did the engine rebuild)
I don't want to spend that kind of coin for real cup 1's and then there's the wait to actually get them haha no thanks
didn't even notice that the tires were different front and back, guh, previous owner did that probably to save money lol, they are both really new so if the buyer requests they get changed guess I can change two of them
It is definitely single stage paint, I told my detailer to do paint readings but for some reason they were showing negative (saw with my own eyes), he popped it on another car and it showed 10 mils so no clue what is going on there, he couldn't get it calibrated to work, but regardless it is polished up very nice with plenty of level to work with, and as far as I know it is original paint, car has no accidents on it and no noticeable patchwork or anything in the usual spots you see
I appreciate the feedback, and after examining my own pictures closely I'll probably drop the price a good amount
I know its not a concours quality car, its a car to drive, and boy is it fun to drive, and mechanically everything works fantastic so I have that going for me at least

PS - gather all the info on the engine builder that you can and all the receipts. A well built engine by a qualified builder is very valuable.

The main thing I was trying to point out is (and this isn't an absolute) - people looking for nice 964s don't want the feeling that the previous owner (you or the guy before you) was penny pinching. Those things decrease the size of the buyer pool, a lot. $5k spent on real wheels, matching tires and repainted turbo exhaust body work - I think will come back 2x on the selling price. You'll have a pool of buyers who don't mind sorting those things out - but they will expect the car to sell for less. You could get lucky with a buyer who loves that shiny red but most are paying close attention to these things. It sure is glossy!

This rare bird will be going up for sale at the Pebble Beach Gooding and Company auction next month. A 964 Speedster “turbo look”. Only 20 of these cars were made at Porsche Exclusive. One of the rarest 964’s.

Darn it. It falls under the house rule of no classics in red, white, black or silver. Oh well. I am not a speedster fan but I do like the WB version. Still not as rare as the 1 of 1 America GS, 5 or 6 turbo cabs (one might not be a turbo), 10 Japanese X83 flachbaus and 17 package cars but still a true unicorn alongside the 20 C4LW. I suspect the market is currently a little soft but should still bring a huge amount.

No doubt, all it takes is two with deep pockets to bring the numbers up. How often do you see one? The market is in flux right now and might be a good time to get in if the right car comes along but unicorns and PTS cars don't seem to be impacted by the economy.

Feel free to "flame" me....but that car doesn't do much for me. Wide body's are cool, sure...but if I were to see this, even if 1 of 1 in the world, its cool, I can appreciate it, but I wouldn't buy it for 100k. That's just me. A silver/blue/green regular ol C2? I'm in. Or perhaps a cobalt 3.6? Talk to me, goose.....

RSA....selling on none other than the PCAR friendly Mecum. Sigh. I'm pretty sure the photos were taken with a potato.
