My scale shows:

RSA spoiler + rear lid= 36 pounds

Normal C2 rear lid + motorized spoiler= 26.5 pounds.

Well this thread is still going. Nice to see such a huge amount of technical data being posted. The posts from Bob and Cupcar are very helpful.
Bob, confusion over production numbers will always be there. I was told there was a total of 76 RHD Carrera RSs with only 11 RHD touring models. I was told no touring models were actually delivered in LHD form. However the Porsche production often data does not include the units put out by Weissach or Porsche Exclusive. A classic example is the C2/C4 Cabriolet of 1990. The records show 673 delivered to the the USA. Really strange seeing as I have collected real serial numbers up to 2042 in the USA.
Dear Cupcar you missed a couple of items on the RS. I have no idea how much they weigh though.
36 amp/Hr battery
No radio
No sealant on the underside panels.

On your weigh comparisons I am assuming you are using the US C2 as your guide. The basic US C2 weighs 25 kgs (50 plus lbs) more than a basic ROW C2.

Ciao,
Adrian

Hi Adrian-

Cupcar and Bob are the same guy.

Yes, for comparison, the US C2 at 3031 pounds curb weight.

The radio was mentioned with the RSA mods and then the comparison was made to that so radio assumed to be deleted already.

Sealant=undercoating in the US of A english.

The light battery got dropped when I did a spell check, which also mysteriously (didn't like a/hr?) dropped some other things too, I thought I put them all back but I didn't. I will add it. Thanks.

Checked your thread above and noted that you asked in it if my car, at 2625 pounds, had a roll cage. It doesn't have a cage.

Dear Bob,
Naughty boy using two different names. I knew Cupcar was one of the Carrera Cup gang but I never knew which one.
Cannot trust them spell checkers.

Glad you liked it - were talking about putting even more info up there on the Cup Cars, USA, RS's and otherwise.
Right now it is taken over with the one lap Pictures.
hopefully I'll get the time to re-vamp it in the next month or so.

I'll also be posting Bob's second edition of Light weight confusion (hopefully) this weekend if not early next week
Enjoy

Bob (aka Cupcar);

Given your knowledge and expertice --

Do you have any 'theories' as to the differences (specifically) between the early RSA build and the late RSA build cars regarding:

Rolled (early) vs non rolled (late) wheel lips?

Additional black paint at door panels and lower ventilation grill (early) vs body colored paint in these areas (late)?

Or any of the other unique items that have been observed by us?

Curious---

Thanks as always!

Here's my best guess on what happened for the early RSA's:

If you look at the Euro RS Touring body modifications you find them identical to the the early rolled fender RSA's except the Euro RS Touring does not have the small brackets needed to install the RSA's luggage dump. My theory is that the factory used an American airbag body shell and carried out the usual RS Touring modifications on it. These RS Touring modifications were a standard work order for the body shop during the 1992 model year when the first RSA's and the RS Touring cars were built, so I think this makes sense. All that was then done was to add the small brackets needed for the luggage dump and viola the RSA was born.

Things changed after the 1992 production run though, the Euro RS was discontinued for 1993 and the RSA was not. Porsche then took a critical look at the work order for an RSA shell and deleted the rolled fenders to save time and money, since they were not necessary operations.

It's interesting I didn't know about the paint but my Carrera Cup has the black paint that you describe. Perhaps the paint went the way of the rolled fenders as a Euro RS only operation, i.e. on the early 1992 production RSA but deleted in 1993 production.

As an aside the American Carrera Cup Edition cars went through a similar change. The very first American Cup built had each and every one of the N/GT modifications done to it including the installation of the 1 liter windshield washer bottle bracket in the trunk and the deletion of all the seat brackets in the rear seat area. Subsequent cars did not have these operations carried out and were delivered without the bottle bracket and with the seat brackets in place. Someone studied the operations and decided which were not necessary for the intended purpose of the vehicles and deleted them to save time and money.

Bob, Would you happen to have a picture of the 1 liter washer bottle mounted in the trunk of your car?

Here's a picture. Note that this was not a factory install I did it myself.

The Euro RS merely used the old intensive cleaning system option bottle as the sole reservoir.

Let me know if you want a list of part numbers.
