VW/Audi 07K (2.5L 20V I5) Swap Thread

Starter motor looks like a hurdle.
Some of the VAG cars had the starter pointing forwards, alongside the engine block. If you end up spacing the motor forwards, for sump clearance, might this be an option?
Would be nice to have the starter in the same location as the 944, though.
keep up the good work!
Cheers,
Mike

Well I just found this:
http://forums.tipec.net/viewtopic.ph...85d9ddcc421ba7
Torque tube adapter:
Starter had to be mounted upside down:
And it still didn't clear and the tunnel had to be widened 1.5"
I might be better off trying to find a 931 bellhousing and modifying that.

Subscribed. That must have been one of your friends or you asking in the Mk2tt forum on QW about a RS crank? I'm currently doing a tial 605 swap in to my B6 S4. Once that's done I'll be on to my 951. This might just be the thing to do.

Moving the motor forward by 75mm would change the weight distribution by less than 0.5%. I'd prefer to do this to use the Iroz oilpan if possible.
If we're REALLY lucky (and enthusiastic), alxdgr8 and Iroz Motorsport will come out with a swap kit. Preorders, anyone?

Yep, exactly. Have seen that thread, hence my comments. However there are some alternative ways to mount the starter much lower, especially if the motor has to be moved forward a couple of inches.

That's an idea Hank and I have talked about, we'll see how this goes!

Gear reduction starter (Bosch SR0402 from Mk3) would save you some space, but still probably not enough.
Say we did want to shift the motor forward, how would we do that with the torque tube? A bellhousing spacer and TT shaft extension?

Are you using a 968 torque tube? If so, the 944 one is a little longer. https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...-on-951-a.html

Cool project, thanks for sharing.
Friend of mine has had a conversion done, but using the "old" version of the engine, 2.2L. He got a bit more than 460hp. On boost it moves quite a bit but it remains relatively torqueless at lower rpm... Curious to know how the 2.7 (with the diesel short block) works out...
