I’ll check them out too. You thinking copper or stainless steel?

I'd do stainless, for no particular reason But when I did a web search, all I saw was copper.
My hat is off to you, sir, for the work you've been doing with that install.
I'm in awe... my swap project looks good, but not like that!

Hey guys - awesome thread. I was trying to do some research on swapping the I5 into a 964...but the information I need eludes me. Maybe you guys can help? PS - I was kinda trying to do this under the radar and SURPRISE, I5 swapped 964...because that's half the fun but I just need some help.

The length of the assembly from front to back is good, very comparable to the flat 6 but the problem I see...and this is what I need help measuring...is the top portion of the rear of the engine with the sprockets and all that mess is seems to protrude farther back and I'm afraid it will interfere with the chassis between the rear shock towers.
Here's a good profile pic to give you an idea of what I'm worried about:

Alan has my engine so I can’t help with measurements. BUT, you are not the only one 5 cylinder swapping a 911. A guy named Seven is doing one right now as well. You can find him on Instagram @944kid or on Facebook as Seven Muhammad. Might be worth reaching out to share notes.

THanks a ton for that!

I'm hoping to build a cardboard model of the engine to test fit before I go buy an engine. Or finding someone else who is doing it, would be cool, too.

Just checked it out. He's doing a mid-engine setup which is interesting. Not exactly what I had in mind but curious to see how it turns out. Wonder how he'll get it to have forward gears and not 6 reverse gears

There was also the Honda K swapped 911, which was rear engine. Here’s a picture from PRI.

Nah, heres four easy steps:
1. Flip the polarity of the starter wires
2. Flip the intake and exhaust manifolds around (if the intake has the injectors on them)
3. Start engine
4. Profit

If this posts twice, sorry...

I've seen that one - pretty cool. The I5 seems like it would fit similarly but that extra bump out at the top of the motor concerns me.

I did a quick and dirty measurement on my engine with a tape rule . The overhang from the mating surface on the back of the block is roughly 4 inches . Hope that is of some help .

Thanks! That will help!

It's chicken or the egg right now... Do I start taking this apart to do measurements or just keep piecing together information to come up with my rough game-plan ahead of time? I'll get mine up in the air this weekend - I should be able to eye-ball it to see if that 4inches is going to cut it. There will be an adapter plate as well but I'm unsure of the thickness at this point. That's the other thing. Kennedy Engineering will make me a plate/flywheel setup but they cant give me even a ballpark price without a rubbing of the back of the block to determine if they already have some data on something similar. They said $2000-$8000...THAT is quite a spread! Is the bolt pattern/bellhousing setup the same on all of the I5s? I'm planning on using an 8V.

The K20 doesn't have the same "lump" there and from this picture it looks like it might be too tight for the I5 ;(
