Definitely! I may want to wait until I get new rubber mounted though. My ancient Khumo's are working ok for the moment, and I may try to wear them out a bit more before I change them, but I do have a new set of Yokohama's on the way from Tire Rack right now.

I guess I need to start working on the next DFW GTG! We could meet in Southern Tarrant County one morning, drive a loop through Hico or Stephenville for lunch, then be back by early afternoon.

And I have a car that smokes when idling... Chris was right. Unfortunately, I cobbled together some hoses to route the AOS back to the intake pipe, and it's still smoking at idle. The hose may be a little restricted at 1/2" minimum, but the stock hose is 3/4", so I'd think if this was going to solve my problem, it would at least get me by until I can do something better... not sure what to do now.

Chris, any suggestions, or do I have a different problem? The K26/6 is freshly rebuilt by Lindsey's turbo shop, so it's not a turbo seal issue.

Edit: going to start a new thread in this and post a link...

I'm sorry to hear that, Matt... I'd love to give you an answer, but I don't have one

Is the smoke blue? black? When does it happen? On start? under load? all the time?

So if you've been keeping up with the other two threads mentioned above, you'll know that the rebuilt K26/6 blew up on Thursday last week. I'm back on the road again as of yesterday afternoon with a new Super 53 thanks to Dave Lindsey giving me a credit for most of the rebuild charge that I paid in May toward the new turbo, and quick shipping of the new turbo.

I figured I should finish this thread with some more pics of the turbo replacement fun over the weekend. Enjoy!

Sitting on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck. Luckily my brother wasn't far behind in the chase/support vehicle...

Tearing it apart... deja-vu...

That'll leave a mark!

Modified plumbing

Removed a little plastic from the alternator duct, cut those ears off and cut out a hole that ended up in the wrong spot and wasn't necessary anyway.

Replaced the turbo oil drain vent line hose while I was in there this time...

I'll fit this in somewhere later...

Had to counter-sink these.

Almost done...

All buttoned up!

Very nice, Matt! I must have missed it somewhere... what's the deal with the turbo water temp sensor?

With the K26/6, he could walk me pretty easily... especially when the turbo shaft split in two just minutes before that picture was taken!

Haven't tried with the new turbo yet, still trying to be nice to break it in and get comfortable with everything after the re-assembly.

As an fyi, you can lay the water temp sensor against the block temporarily and it will trigger the relay

It's the picture with the brass T and my green glove. It's not installed yet, but I did realize that the water pump runs automatically when the car shut down even without this hooked up. Apparently the temp sensor does something else? Maybe there is a hot turbo idiot light??

Yes, that happened a few times while I was working on the car this time because I hadn't disconnected the battery. I guess if it's really hot, the water pump will run continuously until a certain lower temp is reached? If that's the case, I really need to get that sensor as close to the turbo as possible like the factory setup... That's gonna be difficult!

Yeah, I just recently realized that the turbo WP runs automatically when the car is shut off as well... that does bring up a good good question of what the sensor does exactly...
