While i decide what to do with the head, i made an oil catch can. i forgot to take a photo how the oil baffle works but it works!

P.S First time i've welded aluminium ever and with a tig!

Basically the orange lines are the baffle. the air will travel over it to get to the intake while it stopes oil from getting though while going around corners.
The bung will be roughly 15mm long into the can with a slit at the bottom so the oil will vapor down and away from the baffle. if that makes sense.

Mounted with bungs

The bung that connects the AOS to the can, i made it like that so i can direct the vapours down towards and under the baffle.

Next to the intercooler pipes

Recognise this hose? yes? you're correct, that's the old water hose from the turbo water temp tree that goes to the water pump on the motor.

I got started on my TT on friday. I didn't want to remove it from the car, because the hoist was holding it from the section i need to drop so we did it while the TT was in the car.

Made a clamp to leaver the drive shaft out, probably took 30 min to remove.
Also made a tool to pull the bearings out. I did the all thread technique first, but it took to long, so we used a slide hammer.

Bacically you put it in, spin it and it locks on the other side of the bearing.
The top has been machined flat so you can put a wire though the hole and push the pin so you can remove it if you have to. there's a thread at the end to attach a "all thread" rod.

Made some new centers for the bearings. I used clarks garage drawings. Very reasonable and I see no issues with it.

Nice going Pauly!

I have a view questions..

I was wondering about your oil catch can, what is it exactly connected to?
Is it supposed to "receive" the oil which comes out of the AOS?
And what does the bottom look like?
Is the oil supposed to get out through the bottom or do you just keep the oil in the catch can?
Do you use the intake pipes to "create" a vacuum and make them suck the air/oil into the catchcan?

Thanks!
Bas

Hey Bas,

The left fitting goes to the AOS and collects the remainder of the oil that usually goes into the intake. the fitting on the right goes before the turbo, which will make a vacuum to help suck the air.

The bottom is sealed, it has a drain plug. Its just to hold oil. The plate "baffle" is to stop the oil from getting into the intake when the car turns corners.

Hope that helps!

Thank you very much Pauly!

As i'm in the middle of starting my own 3L 16v build i'll probably be getting something like this as well.. Where does your drain plug lead to? Might it be an idea to attach it to the turbo oil return line? If you put on a small shut-off valve between them you can just open it up any time you want to and you wont have any problems with draining it into a can or whatever you'll be using!

I'm watching your thread! the drain plug doesn't go anywhere. if i need to empty it i'll remove it. 3 bolts and 2 hose clamps. realistically it shouldn't even pick up much oil, if any since the rings are new. The old can didn't have much in it when i checked it a year later.

You don't want to reuse that oil.. you can, but i wouldn't

My mates old 33 skyline, he had so much oil passing through his rings that his catchcan would fill up in a few days of hard driving. he would pore it back in the sump. then again his car was finished..

Hmm oke.. I think i'll just put a shut off valve in it but get it with a hose down to the bottom of the car; whenever i want to empty it (if i need to, replacing the rings as well ofcourse) i'll just put a small cup under the car.

Thanks for the idea! As i have all the time of the world on my computer today and tomorrow (doing supervision at work; sitting in a room behind my laptop) i'll read all of your topic

Not a problem!
Yeah a petcock would work, i was thinking of using one. But again it'll be hard to get to it.

If you've got other questions and anything i've done on my car, shoot me a question, or a PM..

I used Delrin plastic. It shouldn't slip or wear out.

From what I've heard it should be on it's way or close.

ps...That's Delrin, not Derlin.
