OK I found a donor 20v that I can get for around 400. Including transaxle and computer.

So so far the problems would be

Clearance (not too worried as I will be cutting a bunch out of this car anyway

Bell housing- If I am reading correctly the 924 bell housing may work or I could fab an adaptor plate between the audi bell housing and TT

Thinking in this direction heavily b/c of the reliability of this engine and the ultimate power output. Plus I have 3 of these little 944's so making one different might be fun.

Does anyone know where the original site for this project is??

There you go, and weld the 944 clutch center into an S4 clutch to fit the spline. I have info for a shop that makes these aluminum TT adapters......just trying to find it.

Wow, makes me think that putting one of these in a dirt cheap 924 with a blown engine and then doing a lot of body work would be an awsome project. Seems like if you did it right you could have a 400whp widebody car for under 10k.

Even just a stock 20V in a cheap but not too ratty 924 would be a ton of fun.

Get a 924 turbo bellhousing, these are plents tough for the job apparently, and allow for mounting a hydraulic clutch. Looks like an audi 200t clutch could be used, but that depends on how much power you would be using. Im not sure if there is any original thread to this idea, but the 924.org boards seem to have alot of old threads on the subject. The motor mounts apparently are very close on a 924, not so close on a 944. There was also some kind of issue with the brake booster? It must be relocated, like in the project within this thread.

So it seems the car to start with would be a 931, as it has the correct TT,bellhousing, better brakes/suspension. also larger fuel tank. and motor mounts are reported to be closest

for the engine 20V N/A looks like the closest fit.

for the transaxle some research on ratios, and final drive would need to be done, the final choice would depend on what the car is to be used for.

This could be an interesting DD....
