Feel the same way too. The car now has a "bad rap" with some of the early comments. For me, if the car was touched by Rob Edwards and released by him with full confidence, it is good enough for me to buy without to much questioning.
Too bad I already have an '89 GT

I hope it finds an owner who will appreciate it as a driver and beat the ever loving crap out of it, as that is one of the best-driving 928s I've ever been in. Not sure why it's been flipped so much, the winner of the March 2020 auction lived in South Florida and had a stable of 991 GT2s and GT3s, so I suspect the '89 was not as engaging in straight line stop-start driving.

Paul and Rob's restored '78 5-speed on BaT. Sold in 2018 on BaT for $5K. This sale will show us all what a first class level restoration of a $5K beater is really worth. Already at $50K.

It was no fun competing against this car in my BAT auction! I was a bit annoyed at BAT as I had been reassured that they scheduled their auctions to protect cars like mine from a car like this. They said they could not do this with 911s as there too may of them, but they could do it with 928s.
A great car and I am happy they got such a great profit from their work and investment. I am very content with the price I got. But keep this in mind if you decide to sell on BAT: There is a big difference between "could" and "would".

As for your car, it was a great example also, but I don't think the '78 had any effect on the sale price. It's very unlikely that someone in the market for a 5-speed OB would have decided to instead invest in an automatic '81 model. Those buyers are quite different. And if you look through the 928 sales history on BaT, there are many examples of very strong sales within the same week.
FWIW your car was the 4th highest sale ever of an automatic '81 thru '84 model on BaT. The only higher sales were Jim Morrison's 4k mile '82, Mark Anderson's 6k mile '84, and a 40k mile '82 Weissach edition.

Sooo... if you have been following my previous recent posts here on this thread, I have now driven 4 928s in 3 days. Since returning home, one sold. But now would like some feedback for the others please
One is a 1993 GTS done 133K km with a replacement instrument cluster carried out and certified by Porsche in 1999. It is Amazon Green with a far from perfect full body respray, and grey leather interior (carpet is grey, so not sure why they appear slightly purple in the photo). Completely original car with good linear service history and a folder full of service records and etc since new. Starts with no smoke and runs/idles very well. My biggest concern is the paint, which is very close to the original, but has very bad tape lines on the inside of the doors - thick and easy to run your fingernail along, and has very bad thickness measurements all over the car - between 300 and 650 microns between front fenders and bonnet. Also some other strange dimples in some areas of the paint. Sort of stuff I could not live with unless I had the car completely repainted again. Have a VIDEO
Another is a 1992 GTS auto done 120K km, in Cobalt Blue (very nice full body respray) with rare two-toned grey leather, full leather trim, and woodgrain. Interior slightly worn - not an easy fix I believe (see pic below). Basically completely original car but has the wrong wheels - has option 403 but these are not Cup II as far as I am aware - should be the more square Cup I wheels. Since the current owner bought it in 2019, he has spent €26,000 in maintenance and revision of almost everything engineering related - all at a Porsche centre. Even has a compression test done earlier this year with perfect results. My only concern is that there is zero history on the car prior to 2019 apart from service booklet. According the the service history, the car sat for 16yrs and didn't move - current owner does not know why. Before early 2000s regular serviced but no paper work apart from service book. Seemed to drive fine apart from very spongy brake pedal (maybe a leak, brake servo, or new bleeding needed?). Gearbox was one of the items renovated, but I thought it didn't seem to want to kick down so enthusiastically. Here is a video
(Not sure why it struggled to start in the video, and why then black smoke? - as you will see in the video it started again fine when I drove it with no hesitation).
I also drive another 1993 Amazon green GTS auto but discounted it - has 152K km, sketchy repaint all over the car, felt more worn, sketchy history and most expensive. The other two are approximately the same price at approx €54K. I have driven a GT so I am a little torn if I can live with the auto tranny or not. In all the autos I found that manually shifting from 3rd to 2nd at approx 70km/h was very clunky. Is this normal?
So please fire away with your thoughts! Thanks

I like the 2-tone interior with sport seats more with Cobalt blue paint!

That interior is Classic Gray. It does have a very slight magenta/purple hue.

They also change over time. One of the issues I have with some of the interior colors. Cashmere can do the same. They look great new but not so much after 30 years. I love the cobalt.

Thanks much for that post, GT6ixer!! I was not feeling bad about the price given what my cost had been, but your perspective made me feel even better!
The strange thing going on now is that the buyer, who turns out to be a high end used car dealer in Germany, is not responding to my emails about this transactions. If he sees this one I hope he will e-mail me at oldfrat@earthlink.net so we can work on completing this transaction.

Ain't no mechanic but I would not be too worried.
How is the oil consumption on the car?
Doest it happen only after the car has been sitting for a long time?
Those GTSs are known to use quite a bit of oil (intake ingestion...).
Is the black smoke at start-up is only related to this or to something else?
Can't say...
