Leeroy has been parked in my spot at Greg's for some time now, I'm down for helping with (and documenting) the transmission pull/post-mortem/swap, if only to get my spot back.
Same one I looked at 5 years ago on a whim. He recognized me. He mentioned his price is very low comparatively to others he sees. I said all he needed to remember is that someone has looked at this trans only twice. And it was me both times. Not a large market, another words.
So I'll haul it up to Greg, where leeroy still and pepper can decide how they will use Greg's beyond generous offer of space, some time, experience, ect.
To be very honest I am not sure how viable the rest of the car is. Engine has leaks. Clutch is newer - I had just done it, and driving the next day this input assembly broke on the current trans.
I think it's OK. I depended on it while my 928 was being painted - about 6 months I think - and it was reliable. The clutch got increasingly bad but that's been dealt with. The oil leak may be cam tower seals, and it wasn't egregious.
I would like to be there too, calendar permitting.
Once someone has had the pleasure of replacing 928 cam carrier gaskets, with the engine in the car, they usually live with nightmares about doing that job again the rest of their lives. I've seen people go to great lengths to avoid "repeating" this job. "JB Weld" is only one approach, I've seen.
When those cam carrier gaskets with the moly on the ends first came out, I was doing a lot of 951 engines. Changing the cam carrier gasket on a 951 fortunately isn't too bad, which was good, because I got a LOT of practice changing them the 2nd or 3rd time.
As I said, they can be made to work (that was all that was available, until I got my gaskets), but the learning curve is damn steep.
