Hotel Clerk: Do you have seventeen dollars and a good watch?

Del: No I don't. I have uh... two dollars... and a Casio.

I had to go back and look at the first post to see if somehow this had evolved into a clone or knock off of James' design without realizing it. Although there are two elements that do carry over everything else is different, hands, 928, day/date, case, bracelet. I don't even know if there is enough similarity to call it an homage time piece. To me James' watch looks like a work of art with obvious specific attention to detail, for special occasions. Shawn's looks like a good solid daily driver that I won't freak out if it gets nicked or scratched.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to give me words of encouragement - much appreciated! But, no worries: I've been to war a couple times, a little vitriol from the internets isn't even going to leave a mark. I never had any thoughts of not seeing it through.

Thanks everyone for the help and support for this project.

The final dial went to Harold a few days ago. He's in contact with his manufacturer, so now it's just a matter of waiting. Further updates as events warrant!

For the next one, I'm thinking a pascha background - blown up so that only a few rows/columns are on the dial so it won't be too busy - and a tachometer dial layout.

Oh: and the [!], of course!

Thank you Shawn for putting this up for us.
Very appreciated.

And, like you said, I'm sure you've seen a lot worst over there than here!

Thanks again.

Thank you Shawn, that was in fact my idea... It was one of the first things I thought the watch should have on it.

As to Jerry, I think they are different enough that no one is likely to get them confused and I am happy to have a less expensive option. Look at it this way, there are Ferrari watches in the Ferrari store that look a LOT LIKE Panerai (did I spell that right??) watches that cost $800 and then there are the REAL Ferrari Panerai watches that cost something along the lines of $8000! Do they share a family resemblance? Yes. Is it clear one is not the other? To a modestly observant enthusiast, yes of course.

So, my hat is off to Shawn for doing this project! Yes, this one like the first one is many people throwing design ideas out there and RKD in OKC catching them and integrating them and then giving us a "watch" to look at to see what we like and don't like and what we change and don't change. One of the few times a democracy has worked! LOL!

I'll be buying a complete watch as well as a dial for some future watch!

I like the idea of the Pascha... I'm not sure that would need or warrant the tacho markers, but that would be a kick A$$ back ground! I DIDN'T think of doing that!!!

I'll be honest, I read through a few pages of this thread (skipped around page 1 8, 10, 18, 19) and I am in for a watch. Please pm me info on how to purchase/when they are ready. That's is if you'd let a non-928 owner own one, have always loved the body of the later s4 and GTS cars. I can see on in my future, for now a 951 and 955 tt are enough.

There are at least two of us on RL with 944s, 928s, and 955s. You need to step up...

The OP started this thread with with idea of producing a much cheaper version of the $800 limited edition of the watch that you guys came up with, and then stated that he "had gone beyond that design" or similar words. However, it now appears that the design that has resulted is really nothing more than a thinly disguised version of what you guys originally came up with and marketed for a lot of bucks to several of us on a limited production basis.

The current design is what I would say is too close a resemblence of the original design as to create confusion about what the resulting watch is. This "new" design has the ! at the 12 oclock, the same as your design, it has a very similar outline of the 928 at the bottom although it has a little bird shot dealy that could be interpreted as a replication of the S4 wing, and it has the 928 starting at the 9 o'clock positon, just as your design, but it then has the 2 and the 8 right after rather than in their clock positions. That seems to be the only realistic difference from your original design.

What I think that results in is the appearance of this new 928 watch being mistaken for the original nearly $800 version, but for only the meager $150 or less. Of course there is the additional fact that the new version of the 928 watch is built on a cheesy little Sieko watch rather than the robust watch you guys used. That in itself maybe makes a siginificant difference in respect to confusion of the two designs.

I know that you are not likely to take exception to this project as it has developed, but I would if I were you. I think the orignial idea of replicating your design has in fact directed the design of this project and has succeeded in that goal, with very minimal deviations from your design.

Maybe you see it differently than that; but this is just my take on it.
HEY JERRY ... thanks for letting us in on what seems to be a conversation directed solely to James ... or was it to enlighten the rest of us as well? I'd rather not have read all that.

Your post reminds me of this guy ... but that's just my take on it.

Jerry first you accused James & co for over charging for their watch?
Then you accused the new design to be a copy.
Then you said it is a cheap watch. So the people interested in the watch either are below average intelligence or are getting duped by OP.
Did you leave anybody not insulted in the post?
I got left out, now I am offended.

OK - I'm trying to simplify my life by not reading 19 pages! Can you give us the bottom line on these watches? Price, availability and a pic. Thanks

Merry Christmas!
