It might be just me, but I don't see a big difference there...

Jim, that actually looks like the door sill version of "928"- at least on my 86. Which is indeed a bit different! [edit] Whoops I just looked at the press kit- looks the same as what I was referencing, so disregard!

Don't get me wrong, this is all super cool. I just figured for an much effort as you got into this, might as well get the correct 928 script... or not, no worries.

Reference the 1977 press kit (one of the first published pieces on the 928): http://928classics.com/4/post/2013/1...-kit-1977.html
Good eye Jim, Roy did the art.

I didn't really look closely, just took a pic.

Yes the 8 is very different, can't use it. Oh well.

I will just use the RS on the spoiler as planned then and leave it alone.

Thanks

The 8 is too "un-928" to use on the "very-928" spoiler?

Matt, keep up the great work. Quite enjoyable thread an you will have a very cool car when you are done.

Denny, I think the 8 in the decal does stick out like a sore thumb now that Jim has pointed it out. The correct '928' graphic is so good.

I'd like to ask Roy if he can get it right once he looks at this thread. I asked him to take a look when he has time and get back to me via email.
But this is a minor detail. Any suggestions on placement (spoiler or bumper cover) is appreciated. I like the idea of it on the bumper cover below the recessed PORSCHE and slightly to the right side,( 928RS) , but would like opinions..

Glad you are enjoying the thread. Take care-Matt

It certainly is!

If you talk with Roy, send him my way. I have the correct '928' in vector artwork, and would gladly throw it his way.

Oh, now I see it. Too much curve to the outsides of the 8.

Yes, funny how once you see it how the 8 kind of floats out there.

First congratulations, first time I see you post and loved every single page.

Question, on the headlights, since the whole system weighs so much, would covering the old ones and putting a projector headlight on the front bumper be an option?

IMHO the headlights of the 928 are one of its coolest things that you wont really see,
and if you do,
it will only be at night?

Thank you and a lot of discussion about the headlamps. I really felt that they are too big a part of the 928 design to remove. But i did neatly drill the central lift tube and respray it satin black. I did not want this car to be a Frankenstein's Monster, I tried to stay with the idea of 'what if Porsche offered a more focused 928RS in 1983. I did veer off a bit with the dash and pod (they would not do that) but my dash and pod were toast anyway so i experimented. I also make a rule to not drill the unit - body or doors but did remove the impact beams and central locks, air condition, power door windows rear wiper and antennae, lexan for hatch glass and a whole lot more items Porsche may have removed to save weight.

Matt,

Looking great. Was wondering if you have been weighing each box of parts as they come off and what the total is.

thanks Matt,
I will get in touch,

FWIW I would install the door protection bars, they do two things.

One is provide the occupants a measure of safety if there should be a crash. the bars will transfer crash energy through the chassis. and reduce the possibility of outside intrusion.

Since your probably not going to add a roll bar to your interior,
the doors are lite but they are also old,
the older cars had issues with the lower sealing molding creating corrosion along the lower edge of the door,
this will cause the door seam to split, thus the door will lose some of its integrity.
the bar will add integrity/ strength

For the amount of weight the bars have VS not having them,
I think from from a safety standpoint as well as structural the bars should be included. JMHO

Hey, haven't talked in a while. I started lightening this car a long time before this RS project so no i kind of lost track. But there is a transfer station where the Guys allow me to weigh the car. It is calibrated by the state of PA every month and w/in +/- 20 lbs.

We should go driving down to Chadds Ford some Saturday(you too Stan)

There is a coffee shop where locals with collectible cars meet every other Saturday to put on a mini car show drink coffee and talk cars..

Bars are staying out, and the doors seams are superb i really looked at them. Thanks though for the concern. I will be driving this car alone 95% of the time. I will drive it to work and back mostly which is usually under a 15 mile commute. Wife won't enjoy the noise at all.

When you visit I'll have you curl them, those suckers are anvils in my MY '83. Maybe they are lighter gauge steel in yours?
