Nice work Matt , funny but now would be a great time to install some Bilstiens,
especially the fronts , shocks make the biggest change in how the car rides but they are expensive, keep up the great work

Love the black wheels on your car.

Can't wait to see it finish. Outside in the sun...v
Thanks I like the color combo. What do you think about a couple 9" GULF oil decals. I think it would be nice as it will be a track car..

Thanks Martin, I am giving it my best. the color is strange in that it looks light in bright light and dark when not in direct sunlight. It reflects a lot i guess. You can see in these photos it looks different depending on which side the sun is hitting it. Now we all know about Gulf Blue.

Had a front set that had a few miles on em. Thanks Stan.

Overall I am pretty happy 7 out of 10. The driver's front fender has too much orange peel at the top rear area toward the windscreen. I don't think it wise to try an wet sand it out. I will remove it , sand & respray it in the Spring possibly. But the rest looks pretty good. I am never totally satisfied with the paint.

That would be a great idea.
Where would you put them?

Martin you are sharp my friend. Didn't notice but yes it looks great (orange)

Bertrand, I was thinking on the tops of the front fenders (big flat area) as the 917s wore them behind their headlamps. I want them
place further back though away from the circular 928 headlamp holes.
This way they would not be so in your face. What do you think? The orange accent and race history reference would be nice on my 928
as I terrorize the area with my open exhaust!

Also I thought a large white number plate on the roof would be nice. Again like the 917s had on thier front ends. I don't want it on my
hood though as it looks so nice.

Will try an install the front bumper cover after some R&R tonight. I shouldn't have installed the headlights, duh..they are in the way of the
bumper cover 8mm nuts.. Fenders can be moved still. All will be massaged as I install the front bumper cover and hood.
Then all bolts will be tightened down.
The body adhesive (3M) never dries..

Matthew,

The front fenders are quite flat so they would not be very visible. Unless you stand beside the car.
I would put them more in evidence like over the rear wheel well or a smaller one behind the front wheel well.
But that's me.
Of couse, it's your car so you make the final choice.

I agree Bertrand, will probably hold off on any decals at the moment.

Was working with Roy @ http://www.porschedecalshop.com/

we were kicking around ideas, i just wanted something on the driver's fender that was removable but probably will not.
Maybe just a Gulf Oil decal or two and small at that.

Anywho back to the insanity;
Driver's fender had large orange peel due to air pressure drop (i think) and has been thoroughly sanded and removed.
Other items that had defects will join the fender for a respray.
I need a new hobby (paint work). Have my exhaust parts to build it, looking forward to that.

Has anyone else noticed how much higher the car sits due to reduced weight?
Still more weight to be lost.

Just got back from borrowing the use of a new friend's beautiful spray booth, what a difference they make.

His name is[B] Enzo Tecci https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...EWSNNIKn1qQpfw of Bala Cynwyd Pa.

He does only exotics like our cars and likes the 928.

He was repairing a late model 911 GT3 and just painted a '62 E-Type Jag when i was in there today.

Very Talented People.

Back Story:
My compressor started puking oil and contaminated all my new metal lines. (See Murphy's Law)

Checked the compressor crankcase breather all the time and not the problem, unbelievable timing..

But the RS's fender is resprayed and boy was it nice to work in there.

When you learn to paint under adverse conditions and then get to do it the right way, you really appreciate it.

I am fabricating the exhaust and will have the car together (driveable, not done, done) this week hopefully. Excited.

THANKS ENZO!!!!!!!

Thanks Jim, and that's really well done (above)

Always setbacks with painting it seems.

Before I started painting today, Enzo (who was kindly helping me set up) bumped one of the roof trim pieces I wanted to re spray on the floor and it dinged the leading edge pretty bad.

That roof trim will need to be bent straight and re sprayed.:banghead

I'm surprised automotive painters aren't
'in the nightly news' more often.

Check out these Porsche Spoilers:

I do a double take every morning, when i first notice it's butt sticking out of the shop.

The color is so nice to me and the black 951 wheels, meh..

Landseer and Tony77 agree.

Probably should bead blast them and go back to silver.

Sneaking my Lexan to the job today and the quarter windows and hatch glass (templates)

I have an idea regarding keeping the shape of the rear glass in lexan w/o using a support bar.

Hope everyone has a great Monday.

..., have you considered painting the wheels orange, with a polished lip ? just an opinion, as I personally think black wheels let the car down, but each to their own?
BTW.., an awsome project, Good luck !

There are many nods to 'period' Porsche DNA in this project, I think it's appropriate to take wheel cues from the other Porsche models. If you're thinking about where to put GULF decals, then go all-in on the Gulf livery and do that pale orange contrasting color on the wheels.

Needs some '928 RS' skirt vinyl decals made up, in a modified Bold Caflisch wide font, to mimic the 'Carrera' stickers on the '73 RS's. Might be too much, but maybe not (?)
