It can easily get mistaken for something other than brake lights. Brake lights are always solid and brighter than the other light so they are easily recognizable by other drivers. This is uniform for all cars around the World and for a very good reason. Last thing you want is to get rearended because of the modified lights. I think this one is a bad idea.

You could be right, never thought about it that way. Really don't want to be rear ended again. My Carrera did have the 3rd brake light but wasn't seen by her i guess. All the bulbs were good. Real surprise and ruined the value of the car. Are you familiar with the blink modules?

Alan and some others have installed them, and I have gotten one of the modules for my car (Alan had some good comments about integration with the 928 electrical system- worth a search). This idea has been around for a while, and I think the positive arguments for it are persuasive. I would use an instantly inflatable giant clown on my rear deck lid if I could to get the attention of the idiot using her (or his, to be fair, sort of) cell phone while neglecting piloting issues in her SUV. Like noticing I am stopped at a light right in front of her. I am getting so tired of that scenario!

My Wife is an excellent driver, her Dad's a Car Guy and taught them to take it seriously i guess. People can't even drive in the rain anymore, like they forget how to every time it rains. Anyway, thanks Martin for weighing in.

Sanded the other fender down to re shoot and got it very nice also.

I took my compressor apart and found it had a broken ring.
Explains the excess oil in the tank.

Had to redo all air lines (clean with alcohol) to respray the few things that needd it.

Re RS Progress:
My work truck blew the front transmission seal while towing my dump trailer two days ago, have to do that tomorrow or at least get the job started. Parts were only about 20 bucks. The transmission pissed all over the driveways, big mess.

Will hopefully tune in with some progress soon.

Wanted to document the effort to get the paint to my liking. It isn't easy getting
it right.
Looked good to friends and Family, but i could see some texture and know it would keep me up at night.

The fenders now are very flat and shine as they should w/o sanding and buffing. The hood and ducktail'd hatch also had some orange peel due to pressure drop, figured i have the paint and started wet sanding until primer is peeking through.

Here are pics of the fenders and current state of the beast.

Going to fabricate 'megaphone' tips for the exhaust ends to give it that
Porsche RSR touch.

Raining here so i must wait to finish up the painting w/ the hood and hatch. The hatch will come off for paint, it's more stable to sand where it is.
Then i'll be ripping down the road in a matter of days hopefully

Looking great Matt!

Keep up the good work and posting pictures. What are you doing for sound insulation? Completely bare or minimum vibration damping materials?

Cheers!

Carl ditto on keeping up the good work.

I started removing the rest of the sound material on the T.T. tunnel, gosh that stuff is HEAVY. I will be using the lightweight modern stuff under my navy carpet or nothing at all under it.

Who is best (quality&price) to buy the correct navy carpet?

I need to replace the tunnel carpet because it is cut for the armrest which will be gone. I may install a piece of navy leather there like seen on a sweater.

I also will need to carpet where the rear seats were and quarter areas. The rear quarter interior panels are very heavy also.

If anyone needs Blue leather rear seats and the quarter interior panels PM me. You can have em free but need to wait til i have extra time to deal with it... They are in great condition.

I want the rear seat back area carpets to be embroidered with an RS on both sides. I will need t figure out who can do that as well.

To get some extra funds for this project, why not sell the quarters. They are worth at least $150 each. Blue is hard to come by.

I have to imagine that every town in America within spitting distance of a college campus has an embroidery shop that is busy embroideriing student athletes' names, numbers, mascots, etc onto nylon, leather, lycra, etc. Ought to be someone nearby who can replicate an RS insignia. Hell, my mother has one of those Bernina sewing machines that is like a CNC embroidering machine.

Matthew,

Niiiiiiiiiice.
Take all the time you need to bring the paint to your high quality standard.
Color sanding is very often - if not always - the way to go for a high quality paint.

Keep up the good work.

Wow, you're right. Shouldn't be a problem at all.

Thanks Bertrand, the compressor ring had broken i think by the time the fenders and hood/hatch were painted. Consiquently, they had more of a modeled surface than the body, doors and bumper covers.

Got the truck up and running so i'm back in business baby! Now only if the rain would let up.
