928 RS Concept Sketch
#376
I know, I expected the worst. It actually sounds good and it was cold. Probably better when it warms up fully.
I love the Old Buggers looks. It was a happy coincidence that the spoiler did not take that away. I thought a long time about adding it.
Rob, you are a serious Porsche historian. YO PABLO!!!
It's 3" forward of the tires but for a track car that could be a good thing,no?
Man, IMO I am starting to love this car. I am putting on the drivers fender soon and hood.
Need to get the dash and gauges in and today;
I made the Lexan hatch glass at work (must hide obsession from Wife) I am tinting the lexan dark black (5) and the quarter glass. Never had tinted windows before. Doing it myself at work of course.
Hard to go so long w/o driving your 928.
Matt, the stance of that 3/4 view of your unweighted RS reminds me of two things:
1. An old Peter Egan column where in about 1958 he bought some American pillowmobile and stripped the interior and all the chrome off to make a racer out of it, to discover that the car was about 2" taller with all the weight removed, and
2:
You've even got the early 928 stance down perfectly!

I'm at a loss at how you're managing to maintain this pace along with work and family obligations. My hat is off in your general direction.......

Sound is pretty cool but not a bit loud ? Mine is a my86 with headers, X pipe, 2 cat converter and then straight to the rear with 2 super small magnaflow resonator. It is a bit loud and I do take care in the neighbourhood but once on the highway it is really screaming at 5k rpm ! If you are interested I could try to record the sound and post it here...

I know, If i ever want to change professions...
I'm sick of looking at it especially behind the RS in photos!
But i like that i can start it weekly run things and pump the brakes.
When you park them for 6 months on end somewhere you're asking for trouble.

Re Pace: When you work w/ your hands growing up and then for a living, the pace just comes i guess.. but I'm constantly thinking ahead while working. I guess i have trained myself that way.
My work (renovating old homes past 13 years) requires this, it's tedious and takes a lot of hours, car stuff is a cake walk by comparison. Much different in that finishing to 100 grit is going overboard with a lot in the houses..

You are not the first one to test a side exhaust on a 928.
Here is a picture of the 928 S ran by Raymond Boutinaud during Le Mans 1983:

I admire your craftsmanship.
I think that YOUR execution of YOUR design and YOUR vision is excellent in every way.
It is unfortunate to watch from the outside this vision of yours being compared to another persons vision of their own design and their own creative process.
I love to watch how we all make these fantastic cars our very own. To some that may mean incredible engine mods, to others, it may mean a unique paint job... killer wheels...... wide body kits..... and on and on.
I think our little pond is big enough to have two (or more) really smart fish with really cool ideas have fun with their cars and share ideas with others....., without thinking one idea is superior to the other.

This just exits in front of them. 100% sure it is not an issue.

It's not about getting anyone to agree for me, I just like Porsches.
For the most part everyone is awesome, and everyone else is absolutely entitled to their opinions.
I like to treat my 928 like i did my 911, like a Porsche sports car. I used to not get the 928 because i was ignorant to it's great qualities.
This project is Good for the 928 model.
But thanks a lot, very nice of you.-Matt

Hey Matt, not sure if you saw this thread but seems like paint stickers and VIN stickers are available to be reproduced

Another great Guy and Business in the UK I just dealt with and will continue to is: PORSCHEDECALSHOP.com Roy, got them today and you nailed the
928 RS Decal.
Roy shipped from overseas and his price was more than reasonable. I would highly recommend this Englishman.
He also sent free PORSCHE script decals along with the Fitting Instructions.
See the 'DEPRESS CLUTCH BETWEEN SHIFTS' which will be applied to the instrument lens or what's left of the center consul
which is more in line with the IROC 911s back in the day.
The 928 RS decal I think should be 928RS unique and not placed on the Ducktail as i drew but rather where the S4 decal is placed below the
PORSCHE on the rear bumper cover.
Thanks Roy! They are outstanding.-Matt

Matt, Did you make the artwork for '928' or did Roy? This script isn't right (particularly the '8').
Don't get me wrong, this is all super cool. I just figured for an much effort as you got into this, might as well get the correct 928 script... or not, no worries.
Reference the 1977 press kit (one of the first published pieces on the 928): http://928classics.com/4/post/2013/1...-kit-1977.html
