I agree, i thought about that but decided to keep it as is.

What color are you painting the wheels?

#1 is single stage, and will get single stage. Paint won't be restored because it is too far gone. #6 is india red (single stage) and will be restored.
I like the single stage too but it's more difficult to paint. Why it is no longer done in auto industry. Has a correct look for a '83.

#1 won't be restored?

The wheel finish i would prefer on these PDs would be like Neil30076's (don't know his full name) Bambus beige 1981 he has owned from new.

They are factory but anodized a black color. A pic on his car is in this Pelican Thread on the first page about half way down. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...highlight=neil

I think a black or close to black centered wheel with polished lip and accents would look best.

What do you think Jim?

I *think* what Jim is saying about #1 is that it will get a respray rather than try to polish up the existing paint.

As far as the wheels, Neil's 81s look great except I don't like the polished outer part of the rim. To me, for a race car it should be solid matte black. Great color tho.

That's good to hear about #1.

Regarding your opinion on the wheel finish; that sure makes it easier for me.

Those polished rings around the 5 wheel openings would be tough to pull off neatly in a reasonable amount of time.

But If i found a set like Neil's I'd use em in a heartbeat.

Worked from midnight til 2am last night sanding & putting on a second coat of sealer on the bumper covers.

Painted them a couple hours ago along with a few other items and the undersides of hatch and hood.

Got a nasty run in one of the headlamp covers which will need sanding with 320-400 and be re sprayed.

Pushing because rain a comin..

Looks like you need to get back to painting as you aren't done with the patio bench yet.

Get too it and you could be all matchy sitting on your porch enjoying a good viewing spot for all of your hard work.

Looks great!

Upon staring at the eyelash in the roof paint and a few fish eyes that were deep i decided that i have one shot to do this 928 right and..

Wet sanded (w/600) the entire unit to remove all orange peel and the 'eyelash' in the roof paint. It did not meet quality control. I will respray 2 med wet coats on it soon.

But on a positive note the hood and 'ducktailed' hatch turned out fantastic as did the drivers fender. They are good to go.

I was pleasantly surprised to see the ducktail in primer, it looked incredible, no waves or imperfections. Very pleased.

Left to spray:

Unit body again. Ugh. PITA.

Passenger Fender + fender hardware

Both doors + strut brace bolts (in gulf bl)

11pm prep (cauke door seams behind upper door window trim w/ 3M auto body sealant. Good stuff.

Prime remaining parts and painted hardware; fender bolts and other.

Night priming gets me a jump on tomorrow's finishing up.

I will be able to sand and fill in more primer as necessary and be ready for paint before it gets too hot.

Supposed to be 91F tomorrow. Then i will re spray the uni-body.

What's your plan for protecting the paint on those bolts when you tighten them down?
