Wow, sorry to see that happen Randy. Just an observation and question,It appears that in your picture the gauge is reading pressure and if it leaked out from the guage would't it be at 0?,Have you tested the gauge since the fire and is there pressure in the system at the time of pic?
Some observations from the pics provided by Randy show that the paper label on the gauge is still intact. Therefore my conclusion is that fuel was not coming out of the gauge "vent" hole. The vent hole is there to equalize pressure on the oil dampening side of the gauge. Also from the burn marks on the rail cover, again, my guess is that the adapter was the source of the leak, either on the gauge end or possibly the rail end. I have a gauge installed on my fuel rail that will be coming off just as soon as I can obtain a new nut and ball.

I suggest you read the original thread of which you were an involved party and check again the comments made by many.
You have a short memory. As for making **** up would you like for me to send you a copy of the email for your recolection.
It would also be nice to find the actual cause of the leak instead of your assement that it is the gauge without any checking of associated parts. How are the fuel hoses that run under the fuel rail next to the gauge. If it is the gauge so be it but it would be good for all to know.

Are you really going to (as I see it) call Randy stupid on a public forum ? for using a " fuel pressure gauge" you sold him that may or may not be rated for fuel or temp and may have set his car a blaze. However pretty gracious of you to offer to send him a new gauge . What next ? Kick him the teeth.

I do not know who you are as you always hide behind your screen name with no ***** to say who you are. You have no right to call me Roger either as we have never met nor do I ever want to be in the position that you know me - COWARD.
If you took the time to read the original thread where we were ALL told by very knowledgeable people to not fit the gauge to the car permanently you would understand the statement I made.
Randy has made a very clear and concise statement to the World that it was my gauge that has caused his fire without taking the time to research the issue properly. I can live with the result whatever that may be.
I being the very RESPONSIBLE person that I am have told the World about the issue and also withdrawn my gauge kit from the market whether or not it is at fault.
I posted the recall on Rennlist, UK Forum, German forum, 928OC forum and the Australian forum. Wether Randy is right or wrong my main concern is for my customers and the cars we all love.
I have also agreed to the private requests made by Randy that I am not supposed to mention on line.
What else would you like for me to do?????

At no time did you (or other 'knowledgeable people') ever tell me to not install the gauge permanently.
I had the specific understanding from reading past topics on fuel pressure gauges that fitting them to the rails permanently wasn't a good idea. And also that using teflon tape for fuel-related connections was to be avoided.
Mine has been on my cars a few times for diagnostic purposes - it allowed me to correctly diagnose a hot-start problem (fuel vapour lock due to a failed check valve - on a pump that was only a few months old and thus had been assumed "good" through a lot of troubleshooting ).
Looking at the burns on the fuel rail cover, it appears to me that the ignition point was at the rear of the gauge. Without bothering to go look at the rear face of my gauge for possible leak/exit points, I'd hazard to say the leak was at the union between the adapter and the gauge (if it was between the rail and the adapter I'd expect more of the top of the fuel rail cover to have melted/burned).
Guys - lets keep it cool - you are both long time players here - both well known to all and respected in this community... Bad situation - nobody would want it to happen - lets leave it at that - just a bad news scenario that others can now work to avoid...
Time to get the car back together and move on... could have been much worse - good save.
I think that the majority of us long timers here know Roger well enough to know that he is a very level headed chap.
Something seriously out of line must have been said for him to be responding the way he is.
He is going above and beyond the call of duty by offering a refund on the gauges and adapters!
Roger, if you do get any back, I will buy a few of them off you for testing purposes to help offset this.
However, I would not recommend pulling this product off the market. I might suggest that you form a waiver or notification with it stating that it is to be used for troubleshooting purposes only, not to be left on the vehicle, and that you and your company are not liable for any damages incurred.
I have been a member of the 928 community since ~2001 and can remember a few testy discussions here on Rennlist about installing any fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail for daily driving. I tried doing a search to find any one of the them but I suck at searching.
Question for Randy. For my own education, how did the insurance company look at this incident since this was a mod done to the car by its owner? Were they sympatetic or it didn't matter? Please and thanks. Fred
