The DB9 is as beautiful as the 928, and depreciates as fast too! I've always wanted an Aston Martin. Someday!

The car that comes closest to being such a radical change, that is today affordable and reliable, is the Acura NSX. I had several over the course of about 12 years and to this day they remain the best cars I've ever driven, and rock solid reliable. I sold my last one after getting this 928 simply because I ran out of garage space, but I'd buy another in a second if I had room for another car.

Jay, isn't the NSX a torque-deprivation exercise? I always understood the Honda engine didn't do anything below 4K rpm ...

It's also a mid-engine two seater, so while awesome, not really a replacement for a 928 IMO.

When talking about a "replacement" for the 928 I always have in mind what Dutch928fan says above:

A replacement would in my view have to be as radically different as the 928 in its time was.
A game changer, a car like no one has made before, something completely new that made other makers stop and say "Damn, that's amazing". I can't think of a car since the 928 was introduced that did that besides the NSX and the Veyron. If you add in the need to be affordable 10, 12 years old then only the NSX hits that mark. Aston Martins and Veyrons will never be affordable like our 928's are, regardless of their age. NSX holds value a little better than the 928 but is still affordable by mortals.

If by replacement you mean a high power, V8, super fast GT 2 door with incredible engineering behind it, there hasn't been one yet.....still waiting

Sure, it has it's weak spots just like our 928's but the "amazing" factor runs pretty high, also like our 928's.

How about the one on the left. 6.2L., 481 HP , 2 or 4 dr. Although more a sleeper in its styling and can carry the kids, no manual option.

That's a good option, and German to boot. However, I think its too mainstream. Gotta be the 8C.

Well, those are all good choices (except the NSX, which while a super cool car is nothing like the 928. I see this exercise as being exclusive, front engine, 2+2 [at least, which leaves out the AM Vantage V8], a beautiful exterior that will look good in 10-30 years, and a very functional interior), so my vote has not been mentioned yet and it is one of my ALL TIME FAV cars and I WILL own one... Probably the 2nd or 3rd car I buy after I quit buying 928's (which is soon!)

The Maserati GranTurismo! If you have not had the chance to see, sit in or drive one, then you are MISSING OUT! They are AMAZING in every single way!!! I have driven 3 of them now and my neighbor down the street has one and every time she (yes SHE) drives by I just stop and stare and wave... AMAZING!

James we speak the same language!
I had an 08 Gran Turismo 4.2 that Randy and I drove about a year ago that I sold. I knew I wanted the newer 4.7 S version. I recently regrettably sold my 928GTS but If i was going to buy a new Maser there was no way I could keep the 928 also. So I just made the plunge on the last day of the year for a great deal on a 13 Grant Turismo Sport. I will post some pics here. All I can say is the car is OUTSTANDING. It has 60 more hp than the car Randy and I drove and it is LOUD when the sport button is pushed. The overall feeling is much more enhanced than the 08. The sound is incredible. A gentlemans exotic just like the 928.

Another virtue a replacement to the 928 must have is to be beautiful. The 928 was and is to me one of the most beautiful designs. The Maserati certainly can hold its own. Here is a link to a video review of the new 2013 gran Turismo sport. Enjoy

That Alfa 8c is so hot and so rare. They don't make it in RHD so we can only watch and weep here in Australia.

I spotted a pre-production car during a photoshoot in Italy in 2006. The pictures I made to the frontpage and page 3 news in our dutch version of "Autoweek".

The car was chased by a helicopter with camera's and an Alfa Romeo spider with camera's on the front.
