Same sudden hot weather for me too and the AC did not work on my 89. Grrr. Barely working HVAC relay outputs 12V until the compressor clutch load is applied and then voltage goes to zero.

PO had installed a bypass relay at the freeze switch (with power from the ABS power post) but I had changed the wiring when I was experimenting with powering the five(!) radiator fans (supercharger) last summer. AC still worked so I forgot about it. Restored the relay and AC works again! Yay!

Follow up post, now with 100% more good news.

Rethreaded the battery hold down hole.

Replaced the oxidized, old bolt with stainless (Mike's favorite).

Life is now better. Only a little bit of cranking and she fired right up.

Whew!

Cheers

I had Stitch out for a local run to pick up a new pair of shoes (those of you who know me know that shoes are a priority in my life).

Stitch, who hasn't been on the road for a couple years since the tree fell on him, ran like a champ. His A/C even works! I have a few minor things to figure out, but he's as ready as he's ever been at this point. I'll probably do a couple of 1-2 hour runs in the next couple weeks, but I'm driving out to Michigan at the end of June and I expect Stitch will be making that trip!

New Feather cowl and seal installed,

once I rerouted the washer hoses it was a breeze what were they thinking with the original!

So... my turn to "let the smoke out of the wiring" when working with the gauge pod and NOT removing the ground strap from the rear bulkhead. Imagine my horror as smoke started pouring out of the gauge pod and became thicker/more acrid until I was able to get to the rear bulkhead and undo the ground strap. I burnt the ground wire on the hazard botton all the way into the main harness, and I'm still chasing the wire until I can find a point where the insulator is not melted.

Lesson - remove that ground strap before working on the gauge pod buttons! And I am going to shrink wrap the connectors before I put this all back together...

Same thing happened to me:
https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...h-to-sell.html

My wiring harness was melted all the way to the CE panel and took several adjacent wires with it by melting through the insulation. Good luck with the repairs. Opening that harness along the entire run was a bi*ch.

Thanks for sharing! Sadly mine was also a case of installing LED bulbs. Seems like it may be a good time to pull the dash and get that recovered if I'm chasing the main harness...

Delicately & carefully removed the front air flaps on my 89- so the next owner could reinstall if desired-

Until Mike comes up with a new style replacement for me, I found these inexpensive low profile wipers on Amazon. They are J/U mount only, unlike the Bosch or other low profile types which need a large housing to work with of the different arm adapters. I tried 19" but then today switched to 18" for faster wiping from the old wiper motor.

B096M7F1GB, select 19" or 18" size -
Amazon Amazon

The arm is at least 1/4" lower than a Bosch Icon

The 18" is nice because it does not hang out in the air noticeably on the right side like the 19"

18" vs 19" swept area is not something you notice

Difficult to see in the photos, but they have a sporty red strip, too

Fitted a Ritech clamp to my 88 S4 auto. There was visible bowing of the flex plate before the original clamp was released. It moved along about 6mm on the splines too after release so there were appreciable compression forces in the drive shaft. There is no discernible end float on the crankshaft and the car has only covered a few hundred miles since an engine rebuild. Fingers crossed the new clamp will put an end to the issue.

My 88 S4 auto. Pulled all injectors, the MAF and the LH and EZK ECUs. Electronics sent to JDS Porsche for rebuild and calibration. Injectors sent for test, rebuild and calibration/balancing at Mr Injector U.K. Several injectors found to be severely under fuelling but now back to factory spec and are reinstalled. Electronics had new ICs fitted and apparently the LH ECU was about to fail. All now refitted and the car Road tested after carefully checking for fuel leaks. The car was quick before but is now ferocious under full acceleration. The engine is much more responsive, smooth and idles smoothly now. No hesitation at any time. Plus the fuel consumption has improved. I’m absolutely delighted and the job was well worth doing. It was also an easy fix. Now I still have to fix the drivers seat electrics……

Hope you have also checked/tightened the torque shaft rear clamp bolt recently...

Best regards,

Replaced the tie wraps on the fuel rails with the correct clips. Also received the correct drivers manual for a U.K. 1988 S4. 👍
