Dropped by a small Sunday C&C at the Wegman's in Leesburg, VA. Two Caddy CTS?? whatchamacallits, one with blower popping out of the cut hood, two modded recent Camaros, New Vette, a recent Vette, and a lime-green Lambo. The general impression was these guys are uninterested in anything old and work/mod their cars with their credit cards. Nothing wrong with that except that they are different species. The 928 and a really nice Ferrari 328 GTS parked off to the side were invisible to these guys. Better bet for "real" car guys is Katie's C&C in Great Falls.
wired up the speed sensor to my Mega squirt. now i should be able to data log speed and what gear I'm in (rpm vs diff speed to calibrate). and also installed an Alpine ilx-007 with apples car play. need a better mounting and trim ring solution. will post pics soon.
I'm in awe of anyone who pulls their pistons. My own accomplishment today was doing a sloppy fiberglass repair job on my smashed chin spoiler. At least I used a good marine epoxy, not the stuff you get at the auto parts store. I did autogenous welds on the two small panels in the wheel wells (that is, I jabbed, poked and stroked over the cracks with a soldering iron). But the spoiler must be a cross-linked polymer (aka rubber) - it wouldn't melt. (Technoid - a piece of rubber is essentially one big molecule.)
Did the spring oil change. First time for me on this car. The screen basket looked nasty. Cleaned all that out with a rag. Some must have used Heman strength to put the filter on because it was really tight.
Put a model on the hood of my car and took some photos. Despite her best efforts, the hood has a nice scratch now. Oh well...anything for the shot, and the hood needs paint anyway...
Bought a set of floor mats from a fellow 928 owner.
Over the past few months, TB, WP, Tune-up, fuel lines replaced, vacuum lines replaced, injectors cleaned, all belts replaced, PS hose replaced, oil change, anti-freeze change, triple grill brackets replaced and tires/rims and floor mats.
Adjusted the dragging parking brake. After struggling with the rotor set screws for an hour or so I finally got them out and replaced them only to find after reading the WSM that the rotor need not come off if all you're doing is making an adjustment - so I turned a fifteen minute job into two hours which is my typical should take / did take repair time ratio.
Yesterday, I compared my bag of screws from disassembling all the plastic bits on the front (chin spoiler, front wheel housing partitions, fender liners) with the number of screw holes. So reassuring, that it all held together with so many missing screws. I love going through the "specialty fastener" cabinets at the hardware store.
I also forced myself to watch Risky Business. I noticed there were no chin spoilers on any of the 928s n the film.
Scraped out the old faded stickers from the rear bumper. It'll be a while before I have fingernails on my thumbs again.
Was going to get new ones, but the stealth look is growing on me. At a distance, you can't see the molded lettering at all. And light grey on brown just sticks out.
