Had a problem with the ABS failure warning light occasionaly coming on as soon as engine started, before the car moved.
This indicates a power failure problem. Decided to treat the car by replacing all 3 relays. Two of them are on the back of the ABS hydraulic unit, accessed by removing the wheelarch liner, then the front cover part that covers the relay box.
Tested the two relays, found the smaller relay which a single pole two way unit had high resistance on the normally closed 5A contact. The other larger relay is a "high power relay" thouigh no rating on the case. I replaced both while I was in there. The relays have Bosch part numbers on, so was able to obtain these direct from Bosch, at a reasonable price.
The third relay is the one plugged into CE panel, it's a "53" type relay but with the extra diaode and resistor. This only had a Porsche part number on it. 928 615 124 01 Boought one from a Porsche Centre at their usual stupid price.
Test drove the car, all seems well :-)

Yesterday, in preparation for the upcoming 3rd Coast event, Sean and I:
Big thanks to Sean (and Angela) for what turned out to be very extended hours for him on a Friday!
- Resolved an un-metered air issue that was creating cold start and idle problems, now she fires quickly and idles rock-steady.
- Installed Innovate LC1 WB02 sensor for Sharktuning with ST2 and Sharkplotter (mega thanks to Jim Corenman for taking our late Friday evening call!)
- Changed oil & filter, and air filter
- Replaced worn door arrestors
- Added sound insulating mat to the door panels while they were off
Big thanks to Sean (and Angela) for what turned out to be very extended hours for him on a Friday!

I was reading the ABS service manual the other day - the special CE relay provides overvoltage protection - it isolates the ABS brain from >22 volts (defective alternator).

Drove the car all last week to a biz meet and back ~1500kms then on the weekend started fitting the new Beru ignition wire set to find my 8YO Nology wires had been arcing on the pass. side. Ive read over the years these wires dont last, guess Ive real life experience.

I spent the weekend under the car cleaning cosmoline and 30 years worth of brake dust and road grime. I upgraded to S4 brakes while I was at it. This is one of those jobs that is never finished and the more you clean, the more you see that needs to be cleaned.

Tried to get a 3 week old kitten out of the belly pan - he takes safe haven refuse there just under the gear box. Tried to flush him out with a hose pipe at the front end- failed, tried to frighten him out with a blast of the horn- failed and finally tried to panic him out by starting the engine- failed. The crafty little bugger simply slipped higher up somewhere around the bell housing I suspect.
Went back to the car later on and the little bugger was sat snug as a bug on the upper surface of the belly pan again probably laughing his nuts off at me.
The Missus threatened legal action if I drove off with him in there.
No wonder it's a dogs life! Gave up and had a cup of coffee instead.
Just another unremarkable day in the life of a 928 owner!
