Default In need of a S4 transmission

Anyone know of where I can get one in the next month or so??

Mine just blew up at the track, after 10 years of racing. perfect until the last shift! really sad, but amazing!

Sorry to hear about your transmission. Was this the original transmission that came with the Holbert car?

There is really no "5th gear" all it is is an input shaft that rides on the pinion shaft. The gear which is on it is the layshaft drive gear used for the other gears. And yes I broke one on the old very brown 1980...one of the three tabs broke and although it did not spin on the drive shaft it clunked back and forth quite a lot. It is made of hardened steel and is somewhat brittle sometimes damaged during the R and R of the transaxle if too much weight is put on it as the trans is being positioned in place before the locating bolts are secure. And you might have simply spun the splines on the driveshaft as they are softer than the input splines. Too much torque ???

MK
Just go to Int and BUY a new transmission. Worlds cheapest racer. Boo hoo.
You work, no? Go look for real sponsors if you want to race but don't want to spend your own money.

New transmissions cost more than an entire 928S4

New to you... used obviously. Can't you fix the old tranny with some combination of a sawzall and epoxy?

Ok, a new and replace plan. thats the idea. thats why im asking if anyone knows of where I can find one. no one seems to have one on the shelf.

Ill see if the Holbert trannie can be fixed with some left over JBweld from my radiator fix from 8 years ago!

Ha, he is actually human!!! Something broke on the racer...

On a serious note - I am gutted for you and I know precisely how it feels - I destroyed my GTS engine in the last race last season and I am dealing with the aftermath... Van Zweeden in Holland have a S4 5spd box, but it will be with a 2.64 rear end. Shipping from the Netherlands to the US is surprisingly cheap when you stick it on a palet.

Good 5-speed transmissions are going to be the limiting factor for racing 928's in the eventual future. Unless people want to start buying replacement gearsets from Porsche..$$$$... When Mark A. (let alone Mark K) is asking around for availability on gearboxes you know there's a problem brewing.

Try and find one out of a GT, gearing is better!
