Thanks, All, for your condolences. It is my first cousin once removed who has passed away. She was a young lady and mother of a boy about 12. She died of cancer. The Boy is going to go to Portland to live with his father. He and my Cousin were not married, but they shared parenting with the boy very well. The Event they are calling a "Celebration of Her Life" is going to be in Canon City, CO this Saturday evening.

I have been fabricating WW Liner Brackets in order to teach myself how best to make them in sets of about 6 at a time and that has been going very well, but it is taking a lot of hand work. The second Phase of that will be to set up the tooling to fold all of them into final form; and then I'll be mounting a fresh set in my GTS4 for the photo session as I complete what I am calling the first "Field Test" of these liners. When that is done I'll have enough hardware for the other field tests kits and will ship them. Then I am going to announce the availability of these for the rest of you GTS Guys (and Gals?) and will probably start those kits as soon as I get the field test kits shipped.

I don't really expect much if any modification of these Liners resulting from the field tests, if the first set in my car is successful, but I am concerned about how much difficulty anyone is going to have with the installation, even with those of yiou who will be having someone else do it. In fact I expect to most difficulty from the ones who farm out the installation because in my experience those kinds of trades folks are frequently reluctant to follow the written instructions for whatever reason. I guess we will see.

In fact it may turn out that all of these Liner kits will be installed on the basis of a "field test." We will see very shortly.

Jerry,

My installer is ready I get to read the instructions and handle the camera and you'll get the "B" report on how easy this is.

Thanks for the update and you have my condolences Jerry.

Thanks Herman (and Barb). I just wish I could be there to watch and take notes, or even pictures. Your pictures, Herman, are going to be worth their weight in gold.

Jerry,

Sorry about the loss of your cousin, and sad for the young guy to lose his mother. I'm very pleased to hear about the excellent shared parenting she and the boy's father had worked out. This will make the transition much easier for the boy, I'm sure.

Cheers,

Gary---

Hi Jerry:
Trust that all is well. Just checking in on the GTS WWL status. In doing a check on the passenger side rear running light I managed to completely destroy the WW liner. Yanked it out but it's time for a replacement. Amazing how much road noise gets into the cabin without the WWL in place!

All the best,

Joe

I am in the middle of fitting a first test set into my GTS4 and find it necessary to make some adjustments in the batch of brackets that I have been fabricating while the weather has been too cold to work on the car. I think I have the left side pretty well zeroed in. I had it drilled and screwed in and snapped together--outer to inner--and it fits very snugly.

One of the things that I have been troubling over is whether or not to try to have the GTS guys locate and drill the three or four holes through the verticle surface on the inboard part of the inner half. I had obtained some hole position locating devises to try to use for this, but now since I finally have an inner half fully drilled and screwed into place I find that with the channel I have formed along to bottom to slip up over the bottom flange of the frame together with all the screw locations the inner half is extremely solid without the clips into the frame.

Therefore I am going to strongly suggest that the clips on that surface be eliminated. I am going to provide some plastic hole plugs to fill the four holes on each side in the frame and let it go at that. That is what we are going to have to do with all the early cars anyway since there are no holes there for clips and I am sure no one will want to be drilling any. And, that is why I devised the channel that I am forming anyway. It is serving its intended purpose very well.

I didn't get as much done on it this weekend, but I took some pictures of some of the progress that I hope to use in the extensive instructions that I am trying to develop. I have written them up twice and will work with both drafts to try to incorporate the pictures in a final draft to be included with each set.

Now, I have bought an 80 Euro mainly so I will have one of the very early cars with which to fit whatever brackets are going to be needed for the early version of these WW Liners for some of those cars. I bought it in Mesa AZ and our friend, Rich A., was very kind to go verify that is was not a scam and then to haul it over to his place for me. I am going to pick it up in about a week and a half and, since Rich is one of the guys who I had scheduled to do a field test of these liners in his GTS, I am going to take a set with me and put them in his car. At least that is what I intend. I think I will try to take another couple of sets, if I can get them fabbed up before I need to leave and maybe get to fit them in a couple of additional GTSs. I hope there are a couple other GTS guys there in the AZ group who are interested.

It all that works out I will be sending two sets to Texas to Tony and Herman who are going to be testing the installation in their GTSs. If it looks like that is going to all work I will be posting a solicitation for the rest of you to start sending me your interests so I can make a list and start producing some sets on a regular basis.

Jerry,
While you are here in AZ like to get a set on mine too. I can meet you at Rich's or at Dan's shop wherever the work will be done - probably nicer to do this up on a lift I would think...

Alan, If I can put the extra two or three sets together before then, including the sound material which still needs a little work on the patterns, Rich has the place scheduled for Friday to install his. It may be that we can do more than one set in a day, but I am planning to stay over Saturday and we could do some then too possibly, but the lift is not available on Sat. Doing it on the ground is not too difficult. That is where I have been doing all the fitting anyway.

Are you going to the dinner Rich is trying to set up for Friday evening?

Jerry I do plan to be at the dinner Friday (need to let Rich know - just cleared it with SWMBO).

My car is scheduled to be at Exotic Motorwerks from Wed- Fri next week (at least) for other work.

Rich was planning to go there with you for the install - talked to Yolanda and they are expecting you Friday AM maybe? If so we can likely do both on Friday - if not Dan should be able to see how they go on and put a set on for me on Sunday (Dan & Yolanda unavailable on Sat).

So either way I'd really be pleased if you can bring another set down for me for install. Happy to paypal you whenever you want...
I believe I was near the top of your list anyway!

I can also drive up to Exotic to meet you to see this - would like to do that!.

Usually Dan/Yolanda just pick-up and deliver so its been a while...

Alan

Jerry, I cant tell you how desperate for the GTS liners I am. Mine are in shreds and my 928 is my daily driver which means it sees salt and brine which at this point I know they have douched the PSD.
I dont care for the holes, I will gladly drill them if that makes it easier to produce. So please put me down on the list for a set.

So glad to see this progressing. Both my liners "crumbled" this winter while I had the car on the lift, doing some maintenance work!!

Let' the fitting start!!

Gary Knox (source of original suggestion that there is a need for these!!)

Thanks Guys, for the encouragement. I have to hesitate to say anything more about availibility than what I have said just above because I think I have said too many times before that these will be available "soon." Maybe that is true now, but I am still going to hesitate.

During the recent winter period when it seems like I have been fairly dormant on this project, I have actually been doing some preproduction of some of the stuff that I will need to make these kits/sets complete. I have nearly 20 sets of the GTS mounting brackets mostly fabbed, save for the bending, and I am working on the production procedure to do that in a way that is consistent and so that I don't have to fit each one in my GTS4 to be sure that it is correct.

I also have much of the tooling that will be needed for the installation of these and for the periodic removal of them, including a nifty pair of pliers that I have fashioned into a tool to carefully remove the liner clips that hold the inner and outer halves together. I couldn't find any on line except a pair that is made sideways and was about $29. I made mine out of $3 HF needle nose pliers that I have redesigned and modified in my machine shop to do the job. These will be provided with the kits.

Gary Knox is also one who has contributed significantly to the development of these WW Liners in a couple of other ways besides making the original suggestion.

I know that many of you are going to think or are thinking that much of what I have done with this project is overkill. However, I have had to do this development so that when it is ready for production I can do that without having to think about almost any of it while I am doing so. I find that I can do the production of this stuff more easily if my mind can also be available to work on other projects at the same time. And, I don't want or need to be trying to solve very many problems with these that I have not fully thought through in the development. There may still be some, and in this first fitting in my car there have been a couple, but I plan to have just about all the kinks worked out when these start going in the mail.

One benefit of my development approach is that these Liners fit a couple hundred percent better that the originals, or more, and also fit about twice as good as I had thought they would when I started. And, to the limited extent that they can be seen after they are installed, they look really nice, kind of like they were actually made for the car.
