I do think you should try megasquirt. If you get really good at tuning it, you can at last figure out if its worth it on these cars, or your chip-tune eaks the most out of the engine possible. MS would ad complexities like Sequential injection, sequential ignition, and other sizes of injectors.

Got the car out of hibernation today with the newest version of the chips. They are freaking awesome. You cannot believe how much of a difference these tuned chips make on the 85-86. I haven't fine tuned the CO yet, that's next. Just felt great to get the car out of its winter hibernation. Roads are finally clear of all the salt. I will be dynoing the car soon where i had it dyno'd a couple of years ago, a couple of Porken Chip versions ago, curious to see how the numbers compare.

Don - uh...yeah, kinda.
But, the only difference is the LH 'octane loop' function. Connect the plugs with the 3.1 chip, and WOT fueling is enriched. Connect them on 3.2, and the LH goes into a 'lean mode'.
I finally had some time to test a theory I had about the O2 sensor maps, and it turned out better than expected. I'm able to make the LH keep a near constant 15.4 AFR, which is best for efficiency, while cruising (14.8 at idle for smoothness), instead of undulating 13.8-15.5 to recharge the cats. ROW LH 16Vs run somewhat lean at cruise, but they don't have an O2 sensor. The way I'm doing it, the LH is constantly keeping the AFR steady using the O2 sensor.
So far, my auto still doesn't get above 14.5 mpg (16.2 l/100km) in the city. Then again it is a heavy beast, and I'm driving it harder than I used to, but it's so effortless, it's difficult not to. It also has a 89 octane EZF chip. I'm leaning toward recommending that the 'lean mode' be used with the 92 EZF chip. I think the lower advance with the 89 won't help as much. Either way, I think it's only going to really shine on highway mileage.

You'd need to swap the EZF 1.0 bar sensor for a 2+ bar one. I don't think any code changes would be necessary.
Then just edit the EZF cruise, and LH base/WOT maps as usual. (Might want to edit the vacuum scaling map for the cruise map but could probably get by w/o that.)
I have a 951 KLR box (below, very similar to an EZF) which I will be scavenging the 2.0 bar sensor from if I (turbo)supercharge at some point.
Or you could make one from a more modern sensor, as was done here to upgrade a KLR for higher boost.

So are you saying you could do this? Because I sure as **** couldn't. Either I do this for boost on the 86.5 or I use Megasquirt. Either way I have to buy completed boxes, as I cannot solder something less than 2mm in diameter with these hands.

Finally installed the v3.2 chip. Much to my surprise, the PO had been into the the EZF and the LF. He failed to tell me the car had Autothority chips installed! So little did I know, I'd be doing a side by side comparison of the two chips. I did install the recommended Bosch spark plugs. They replaced 7 Bosch platinum and 1 Bosch Super
The car was a real dog in the lower to low-mid rpms, but once it got over 3500 rpms it screamed to redline with the Autothority chips.
With the porken chips, the power comes on earlier. Starts a good pull around 2500, but fades by 5000 rpms. My initial impression is that the car is more street driveable and will be much nicer to drive in the twisties around here. Power delivery is much smoother as is shifting 'tween 2nd and 3rd/ 3rd and 4th. I did like the high rpm pull that the Autothority chips offered. Maybe I just need to complete the job with a MAF rebuild and an x pipe?
I'm going to grab some lunch and head out to Lake Berryessa to give it a good shakedown.

With a 5-speed it should pull hard from 2500 to redline. 2nd gear especially. It may not do so immediately after idling for some time, until the airbox cools, but by the time you get into 3rd it should be.
Check for:
- Correct part# on S4 FPR
- EZF 'octane loop' plugs disconnected
- WOT switch working with pedal to floor
It's best to match the fuel octane to the chip. Using Super with the Plus chip may mean lower performance.
Note that the AutoThority chip requires Super. Even with Super there is too much advance at cruise in places (10+ over stock). If the WOT switch is not working, the AT chip works better (because the AT WOT map is stock), but there is a good chance of it knocking.

can't find octane loop wire. I suspect it's still connected

You have a few more gadgets on your site since I ordered the new chip (WOT pot, LH2.2/EZF XDF...) Anything I should consider?
Even still the car is a lot more fun in the twisties than it has been.
edit: octane loop plug disconnected. will check WOT switch next... and go for a long drive to burn out all of the old fuel tomorrow.
