Fair enough but I did it in a Toyota and it didin't work. You must have been more patient tham me.

No to argue too much but that crank is still salvagable. Can be re surfaced and straightenned to accept oversized bearings.

Well I spent the day with "Richard" Wolff and we pulled the engine from the 84 lemons racer.....& we found the #6 was GONE...just a smidge of bearing shell left....#2 wasn't much better but both half's were there....#6 was SO loose you could wiggle it BY HAND....watch the video....its amazing that engine ran at all....

This was a surprise?

That's really nice, Mark.

If you can get someone to donate the parts, I'll reseal the front, put on a water pump and belt.

I'll pull the pan and reseal it, inspect the bearings. Stick a GTS windage tray in there....why not?

You've got to get all the cool air you can find to the oil pan on this engine....or add an oil cooler.....or both.

I think I have an old accusump that is full of metal (needs to be cleaned) that you can have for $10.00...with a receipt! I'll need to go look.

You need to make sure that you limit the amount of timing on the "big end". and make sure you have plenty of fuel to run it up there. Limit the RPM's to below 6,000. Ideally, you'd stick a cross drilled crank in there, but I doubt that would be "in the spirit" of this race.

Pray.

I'm going to guess that we might be able to get a few Rennlisters together on a Saturday to have "engine tech" session, here at the shop.....and you could have the resulting "class engine".

We certainly would never put a "class" engine into a car....too much risk that something might not have been done properly.

Greg,

Do you really think a mostly stock 928 engine can survive in a 24 hour race? I think it's fantastic that these guys tried to run one in a LeMons race, but this pretty much reinforces for me that these engines just don't like to be on track in stock form.

That is a terrific offer Greg. Let's make this happen.

No. But with a few tricks and some TLC...it might have a chance.

Kibort...seems like it might be your turn to donate something....perhaps you can find the Amsoil, sitting around in your garage.

What about some electric superchargers? You could make them look like hair dryers.

It also just occurred to me that I will have a brand new updated design of our windage tray system that I need to test....they will be done, this week. Is there anyone out there willing to run these on a track engine for say...a day or so?

These will not be pretty...they are truly prototypes.

From the 24 hours of LeMons site,

"4: VEHICLE PRICE

•4.1: Total Investment in Vehicle Can Not Exceed $500: Except for items described in Rules 4.2 and 4.3, the total spent to purchase and prepare any car may not exceed $500.
•4.1.1: Lame-*** Rationalizations: Cars that "should be" worth $500 don't count; cars that "were worth $500" before you spent another $2000 to fix them don't count; cars you've owned for 20 years and spent more than $500 on during that time don't count; "it would have been worth $500 if it didn't already have a cage" doesn't count. Five hundred dollars means five hundred frickin' dollars"

IMHO donating a engine from the No.1 928 parts supplier or parts/labor at a discount from any commercial interest is not in the "spirit" of the LeMons race.

This is racing. I am sure many many participants are "very close" to the "500 dollar suggested amount" for their cars.
